Last 5 years
Arkle 2 to britain 3 to ireland
Turner's 4 to Britain 1 to Ireland
banc 4 to britain 1 to Ireland
So it's 10-5 to britain over the last 5 festivals despite the irish dominance in the novice hurdles
They have a cracking recent record don't they!
I'd think Britain would be in front in the Handicap Chases as well over the same period??
Must be miles behind on the Hurdles front though.

With these UK versus Irish chases, if someone wants to look up the prices they won at that'd be interesting .... I think it'll reaffirm my view that there isn't as much of a need to back them ante post as early (generally)
There will be some I'm sure that were short and stayed short, but I was late to the party on L'Homme Presse and still had good prices, similar to Stay Away Fay.... he could win again and will still be bigger than Gaelic Warrior or some other Mullins horse after they win their first start
Rightly or wrong of course

Did some work on National Hunt this morning. One horse I am very interested in is Minella Cocooner at 25/1. Solid G1 form over hurdles. Only ever beaten at G1 level by The Nice Guy. Doesn't look to be one of Willie's real shining stars for Novice Chasing this season so a good chance Patrick can persuade him to put him in the NH Chase. Flemensfirth sire and Old Vic dam's sire. Plus I've just spotted Jamie Codd has put him up as a Dark Horse saying "He was beaten in a sole run over fences last year, but could well benefit from that. I wouldn’t rule out Grade 1s over three miles, but if he ended up in something like the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham, he could be as close to a good thing as you can get.”
Anyone else in the same camp ?

He'll need to be less forward than he was in his novice hurdle season. He wanted to get on with things, so here's hoping he's settled down a bit.
For me, he's the stand out for Willie/Patrick in the market.

I’m aboard the Minella Cocooner train too, can’t see the 25/1 with 365 lasting too much longer. I’ve cashed half my Letsbeclearaboutit stake & placed it on MC.
I had a brief chat with Keith Donoghue at Naas on Sunday about Letsbeclearaboutit. He basically reiterated what Gavin’s been saying in his recent stable tours that he’s a very forward going sort over fences. Keith said he wouldn’t see him as a NHC type but we had a bit of a laugh about that being partially due to him not getting the ride. He fancies him for the Drinmore anyway. I’ll probably wait until after that race before deciding what to do with the rest of my position on him for the NHC.Last edited by SeanRock; 15 November 2023, 12:30 PM.

Waiting for an entry for MC before getting involved though.
