2024 Novice Chasers

He's an enigma to me. Bred for a trip but runs like he doesn't want a trip.

Has he though?

Won the Nathaniel Lacy from the front, which was over 2m6f, plenty of stamina showed then.

He outstayed everything bar The Nice Guy in both the Bartlett and the G1 Novice Hurdle over 3m at the Punchestown Festival, and to my eye got done for pace by The Nice Guy on both occasions. He was only 3/4 lengths away and closing on The Nice Guy at Punchestown.

It might be worth remembering, Stattler got absolute hammered in both of them races plus the Nathaniel Lacy, yet became Willies NH Chase horse and eventual winner of the race.

I'll have to watch his races back as he's been out of mind but that is from memory. He is a 2nd season novice chaser I guess due to injury.

The injury reason, I could understand, but Willie seems to think he's come back looking good, which is enough for me at this stage.

Hopefully it won't be long until we see him out.

Very true re Stattler. I didn't think he was an out and out Stayer either.
