Yep, he's the alpha so might as well tell the rest where he's rocking up.

Just put 2 at 1000 for Bally to see if anyone would nibble. Probably ridiculous and need to remember to cancel it, but that's my first ever exchange bet for cheltenham...

Just seen that, was tempted to go 100-1 but I doubt we'd get any takers.

        • As an aside, I do wonder if there's a magic number you could play with to try and get bets matched by bots during these periods of uncertainty - e.g. 25% above current odds so if there's a slight move and the machine panics, you can get massively enhanced odds or laying the other way for people trying to get on and reduce their liabilities...

            • I don't play Mullins bingo or do books so haven't had any bets in the novice hurdles. If I was betting with someone else's money and could only back Ballyburn for one race, I'd be inclined to go for the BB. I see it as quite similar to the 2019 situation with Aramon and Klassical Dream. It was set to be Aramon in the Supreme and KD in the Ballymore until they saw the weather forecast and realised that the soft ground Supreme would play to KD's strengths rather than Aramon. Given that the only horse to have beaten Ballyburn is likely to run in the Supreme, the BB seems the obvious target. However, and this is why I don't do the bingo, the worst thing that you can use to make a bet is the statement, 'if he was my horse. he'd be running in the (select race of your choice)'.

Whatever the stable tour says, you can be certain that no decision has been made yet and won't be until the last minute. Willie's great strength is his flexibility and he won't press the button until 9.45 on declaration day.

Nothing is final until it's final, or done until it's done.

I don't see any similarities to the 2019 situation to be fair.
If the markets were more towards the BB then maybe, but that seems to not be the case.

IF (big if) Willie has said that Supreme is the plan, I cannot see the ground causing a last minute change. From supreme to BB (the other way around would be much more likely)

                • Ballyburn team still deliberating Festival target
Willie Mullins has a wealth of novice options at Cheltenham.
                  Mon 12 Feb
                  News

Willie Mullins is still to decide how he will shuffle some of his novices’ hurdle pack, with Ballyburn looking his ace card to play amongst a team brimming with talent.

The master of Closutton has won the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle a record seven times, while the following day’s Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle has gone his way on six occasions, including last year when scoring with Impaire Et Passe.

The handler is blessed with an array of riches in both races this time around, with many of his Closutton inmates double entered – including high-class pair Ballyburn and Mystical Power, who are dominant in the ante-post lists for both races.

Owned by Ronnie Bartlett in conjunction with football agent David Manasseh, Ballyburn laid down his claim to be Mullins’ Supreme number one with a faultless display at the Dublin Racing Festival.

However, the Irish champion trainer is willing to bide his time before firming up final running plans.

Mullins said: “Ballyburn has been very impressive. He’s in the Supreme and Baring Bingham, pedigree-wise you’d say Baring Bingham but looking at his races you’d say Supreme. His owners haven’t shown a preference and they’d be very happy to go wherever we go. I’ll leave that one open for the time being.

“Mystical Power is another one, owned by JP who is good pals with Ronnie Bartlett and will they want to take each other on?”

“I’ve been very pleased with what he’s shown over two miles as on pedigree I thought he’d want further but he’s shaped more like a two-miler.”

Mystical Power comes with a champion’s pedigree being a son of Galileo out of Champion Hurdle winner Annie Power and having done his early winning last summer, served a reminder of his potential when landing the Grade Two Moscow Flyer last month – a race that has served Mullins well in the past.

He added: “I think he’s a bit like his mother, a later developer. You get some pedigrees, like Quevega and all her progeny who are late developers, so this fellow is improving all the time.

“I was amazed with how much he’d improved in his last bit of work before the Lawlor’s of Naas, but then that was put back a week so I said ‘let’s go for the Moscow Flyer’ and he was very good in that.

“You’d have to think Supreme but we’ve had Moscow Flyer winners go both ways. It’s been a very good race for us as a trial to Cheltenham.

“Asian Master has had his two runs and I imagine he will also probably take his chance in the Supreme Novices’, he’s every right to.”

                  • Again......bit like F2F, not conclusive at all. In fact, I'd be favouring the Ballymore with Ballyburn based in the above. Going to go to the wire !

This is the bit that's troubling me... Don't know if they're the sort of pals that would be nice to each other or the sort of pals that would go out of their way to screw each other over... I'd be more the latter

                        • Interesting quotes on MP - seemingly strong on Supreme. If Willie thinks he and BB are his two best novices and he wants to split them…

                          Mystical Power
Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle, 6-1/Baring Bingham Novices' Hurdle, 5-1

I've been very, very pleased with what he's shown us over two miles. With his pedigree, he could be a two-and-a-half miler or even further, but he's shaped more like a two-miler. That wasn't what he looked like in his home work, but he's a late developer. Mark [Walsh] rode him in his last bit of work before he was supposed to go to Naas, and was amazed at how much he'd improved. The Naas race was put back a week, so we switched to the Moscow Flyer at Punchestown. He was very good there and we were very happy. You'd have to think Supreme.

                          • I've been doing Ballyburn (Supreme) and Mystical Power (Baring Bingham) doubles all last week. Just makes sense to me. Ballyburn has the form that suggests he is the best 2m novice around. JP McManus already has Jerico who doesn't have a Baring Bingham entry so is bound to go Supreme. Mystical Power has the stamina on breeding to stay 2m 5f and Mullins has a habit of keeping his best novices apart. It would surprise me if they do race against each other and/or Ballyburn goes BB.

                            • The amount of faith people seem to have in Mystical Power being a top horse baffles me. He's going to get walloped in either race. I don't think the Closutton team see him as one of their best horses (although I don't think they see any of their novices except for Ballyburn as a top notcher tbh).

                              • Yeah, I’m not a fan of mystical power
can’t work it out, this time last year I really like IEP and you were still getting a decent price

fast forward a year, and just can’t work the novices out and not willing to back these favs at the price being offered
