  • Very impressed with slade steel

You don't often see horses run keen in swamp like conditions and still win

Suspect he's a lot better than those than the winning margin suggests

    Lawlors of naas next hopefully

    • Willmount to the Tolworth now on Boxing Day. Jeriko at Newbury again in the race Jet Powered got turned over in last year. Hopefully a decent front runner takes him on so we can see what he's got when there's a decent front end pace.

I was hopimg jango baie was going to go aintree on boxing day, that'll likely rule that out
Although kempton has a nice novice hurdle at xmas so all is not lost, if he took that in it'd be a very similar path trodden to altior

He could end up the best of the Henderson bunch. Still not sure how he won last time after the way he pulled.

Yep. Was really impressed. Loads to come and he'll be much better on decent ground. Rachel certainly thinks a fair bit of him.

Can you share the quotes from Rachael please lobos I’ve seen the quote from Henry but not from Rachael. Thank you sir.

              • I'm sure Slade Steel is a good animal, but I'm not a fan of Lecky Watson and he got within less than a length today.

Probably doesn't bode well for the two in behind either who I have backed for the Bartlett but they both look like needing a step up in trip.

Lawlors looks unlikely. Henry as per irishracing.com:

When asked if the Grade 1 at Naas in January could be on the agenda he added: “My gut feeling is that it's a little bit soon after today, it would be another slog there as well.

Lecky Watson is a bit of a monkey in a finish so he was never gonna go past

Slade steel was more than entitled to find nothing today after pulling a little on the way round

He'd be plenty better on decent ground and a stronger pace i reckon

Not a superb win but an encouraging one

the horse that was very dissapointing was stellar story

Who will now be a possible pipe horse

                    • 'I am looking forward to riding Slade Steel in the Grade 2 Navan Novice Hurdle, a race that we were lucky enough to win last year with Inthepocket, when the race was run at Naas.
He came out of his Naas run really well. He was very good that day and we have been really happy with him since. He kept on well at Naas to win nicely from King Of Kingsfield, who franked the form of that race when he finished second in the Royal Bond Hurdle at Fairyhouse at the weekend.

It looks like a really good race. Better Days Ahead, Stellar Story and Lecky Watson were all good bumper horses last season, and they were all impressive in winning their maiden hurdles this season.

But we're hoping that Slade Steel can take another step forward now. He is stepping up in trip, but I think that can only help him. He's a really nice horse to have in the yard.'

They'll probably drop him back to 2 miles at the DRF now I'd have thought with An Tobar going for the Lawlors.

Yes potentially. Or up in trip to the Nathaniel Lacy. Which may be a less gruelling test than today even being on better ground.

Rob Acheson says Killaney King is the one they are targeting at the Lawlors. Mind you, he’s out for his maiden pretty late if that’s the target.
