Not sure anything he has entered in the Royal Bond tomorrow will be good enough to turn up in a Supreme myself

Farren Glory available at 50/1 for the Supreme though if you think so, might be worth the double with Firefox?

My mistake. They said they thought Firefox needed 2.5 miles.

Agree that Gordon's Royal Bond entries would not be good enough for the Supreme. Or any of the other runners! A poor Royal Bond imo.

Ballyburn looks a stayer every time I see him, and he lacked the power today to be able to cope with shorter trips at the top level.
Think Firefox was just fit, but not an exceptional novice IMO.
Could easily be wrong in time, but you can't back them all.
I thought Firefox was pretty good.
See how he does next time.
Wish I knew what race at Cheltenham though!!
Could well develop into a very live contender imo

      • Time tomorrow for An Tobar to pick up a weak grade 1 on route to the Lawlors then Ballymore.

I'm personally more inclined to back his for the staying races, always have been. Even though he don't win it often
He can produce the odd speedier one though for sure, but usually they are obvious enough, except for the mad thing he won the supreme with
          He'd have won the Ballymore

Sir Gerhard, Three Stripe Life, Whatdeawant and I Am Maximus managed to get 4th

I think Firefox has already shown a bit more 'speed' though ..... a staying 2 miler type

and the blurred lines and generic "speed horse for the 2 and half mile" and "stayer for the 2 mile race" cliches are never going away.

          • Gordon today firefox....He's a good horse and Jack said he's so straightforward,"

"We thought he needed two and a half miles and that's why we were making every post a winning post.

"Jack said he could go two and a half but he's got so much boot and is so relaxed that everything is very easy to him. He looks exciting and you'd like his attitude. We wanted to get today out of the way first and I just loved the way he jumped. Jack said he was so professional over the last two."

All that (plus breeding but I wouldn't be too sure) points to a future over the minimum trip but nothing would surprise me tbh. You're right though re a below par run at Xmas, that will be the big test on where his future lies.
A lot of his dual purpose horses run over further also...

              • I’ve not seen anything mentioned but has there been some news on Jade Du Grugy?!

PP pushed her out to 33/1 so 365 follow suit but go 50/1 just to knacker the cashout but I’m tempted to go in again if I see an entry and she’s not injured.

Got a very nice write up in OJA in the top 40 prospects section and with ideal connections as well.

Entered the other day in the race Enola ran in. Not seen anything after.

                  • Missed the Firefox / Ballyburn race and only just got round to watching it.

Firefox done it very well, unsure about Ballyburns head carriage but Klassical Dream was the same and it wasn't a bother on him at the festival. I also don't remember Ballyburn doing it so pronounced during his bumper runs but I could be wrong

The best thing about the result is we can finally knock 2m on the head for Ballyburn, IMO. It never looked likely from his bumper runs or breeding but some were still insistent it would be the case. I do think race fitness told though and them meeting again may have a tighter finish if not a result reversal.

I'm not giving up on Ballyburn for the Ballymore though. Bob Olinger got beat first time out by Ferny Hollow and then went on to win the race. It actually makes a nice change that these Willie horses are not just given a free run every race and taking on a race fit Firefox was certainly a harder task than what Jeriko Du Reponet, Willmount and Daddy Long Legs faced, IMO.

I was talking about this at the weekend the record of losers first time out. I think difference is ferny won a champion bumper and we had a much better idea that he was likely top drawer. Bob getting close to him was seen very positively at the time. we are making that assumption for Firefox but have much less idea what level he is capable of. I dont think people could be as positive about ballyburn in relation to Firefox and they could bob in relation to ferny.

                      • I think it has to be in doubt that Ballyburn goes to the Supreme now and probably depends on how Mirazur West and Daddy Long Legs progress.

That said, it was his first run of the season and they crawled around for the most part. I wouldn’t be so sure that a strongly run supreme on soft ground would not suit him. If they are concerned about him settling that may still
turn out to be preferable than the Ballymore

                        • Added Firefox @ 12/1 for the Ballymore and also rolled him up for 39/1 with Found A Fifty today. He was impressive yesterday I thought. The Supreme v Ballymore debate will roll on, but reading Gordons comments on top of that performance has me leaning towards 2m5f. Gordon - We thought he needed two and a half miles which is why we made the running. He could still go that trip, but Jack said he has so much boot and is so laid back and relaxed that everything comes very easily to him. Jack said the best was over the last two when he just put his head down and galloped. I loved his attitude.

I agree he was impressive, he could go either race, the debate will rumble on.
I think he surprised them how easily he beat ballyburn yesterday.
The "we thought he needed two and a half miles" comment probably has something to do with him being a half brother to the bosses oscar. Not anything he has done
                            himself?
One thing for sure, He was impressive.

He looked to settle very well yesterday, his head carriage would make you think he was half asleeep

Aye that’s why I was confused on the big drift. Entered not declared and suddenly a huge drift.

                                Someone know something we don’t

Will definitely keep an eye on entries etc, she’s one I’m keen on for WPM.
