  • Are we at that stage where we're having to bet supreme hopefuls after their PTP or Bumper win, just to get double figures

My approach changed after Covid, I just let the supreme sort itself out and have a decent single bet on the day. I really enjoy trying to get the first winner of the day, on the day, over trying to beat to market and build a book. Just my preference

33/1 for a little while early on (this may have been pre bumper though), then 25's for a fair bit too.

I think last years bumpers have created an odd market with the majority of the better ones kept away from Cheltenham and Punchestown Champion Bumpers: Ballyburn, Mirazur West, Ile Atlantique, Down Memory Lane, Firefox etc. There’s minimal form lines. Add to that A Dream To Share with what must be a reasonable injury and Fact To File goes chasing, and we’re really having to search and think about who the better novice hurdlers coming from that sphere might be.

This is particularly true for Willie’s cohort. Recently we’ve all known there’s 1 or 2 who are head and shoulders above the others. There’s probably five potential candidates for his best this time round.

That’s lead to what I think has been very decent prices about a lot of horses, at least until Stable Tours. But now the market is searching for favs - people want to bet.

Very true. Probably more so than any other trainer in view of number of horses he has.

As a full brother to the cripple that is Ferny Hollow then I just could not have him ante post at any stage. Rather see him with a full season under his belt and show he doesn't have those frailty traits that his brother does.

                  • After watching the race and trainer comments, have cashed out my Supreme bet on East India Express.
Quiet liked the performance and still have him for any race.
Sounds like the Ballymore is fav…… if he proves good enough.
All these hurdlers coming out need to be seen at least once more.

                    • Plenty of talent there (Dysart Enos) but Fergal needs a bit more time with her in the schooling yard...

                      • Dysart enos won but she's going to need to get much better at jumping

                        Looked far from a natural

                        • ….looking like Dysart Enos remains at a best price 8-1 (Lads/Cor) MNH after that win.

                          • High Class Hero pretty much all blue today for the Bartlett, so I'm guessing someone has put him up, somewhere?

I know Quevega was keen when he was a bigger price.

Has anyone ever backed the winner of the race this far out before?

We've had a good go on here and come close, but no, I don't think so, not in recent seasons, at least.

For those that are thinking about backing him, I've had a go any race with Hills who are still 12/1, and he's a general 12/1 shot just for the Bartlett.

There has to still be the possibility he ends up in something like the Martin Pipe too, so the any race bet was the way to get him onside, for me.
