After Brave the year before and the way Hermes went through his races it was fairly clear to me he was going to the wrong race in the Ballymore.

To think, would they have had a better chance in the Albert Bartlett each year, absolutely imo.

Edit - just to add, I think Captain Teague will have more pace than the 2 above, but ultimately not the pace required to win a Ballymore imo.
        Spot on craigy
I reckon Nichols has probably realised this too.
probably depend on opposition and his own ranks though.

        • Is it not maybe a deliberate thing of Nicholls avoiding the AB with some long term prospects? Even going back to the like of Denman.

Think it's hugely unlikely he'll run in the AB.

Negative for SAF I'll admit, in case anyone pulls me up there. Although him taking about that one for the NHC kind of adds more to the theory he doesn't send his best to the AB.

Exactly this. Chasing is where he will earn the money so he'll not be gutting him in an Albert even though he'd have a better chance in it.

The tater race only been going 19 years. Denman probably only ran in the Ballymore because it was a more established and prestigious race he would have won the spud race by a furlong

Of those 19 years…… do we know how many Challow winners have run in the AB?

                • Not got time to look today, but 2 have done the double. Witchita lineman and Taquin du Seuil. I'd say far more go the Ballymore route.

                  • Turns out I did have a bit of time! Only 6 ran in the AB finishing: 311P44
Three didn't run at the festival, and 10 ran in the Ballymore, finishing: 23223023P6
So not a bad record in the AB,and a good placepot pick in the Ballymore

                          Gutting him !!!!
With respect that term in regards that race is utter bollocks.

                          • Gidleigh park, Trained by Harry Fry. Walk in the park gelding out of a presenting dam.

Highly impressive bumper winner in march recording a 120 rpr. Beating The jukebox man comfortably by 6L, who won next time out recording his own 120 rpr.

Ben pauling had this to say in his recent stable tour r.e The jukebox man “He won his bumper very well and somehow got beat by a horse of Harry Fry’s (Gidleigh Park) previously so that must be some piece of kit as we think plenty of The Jukebox Man”

In an interview with the racing post last month Johnny Burke had this to say ; Pressed for a horse he was relishing riding again, the 27-year-old, who has a handful of Grade 1s on his CV, replied: "Gidleigh park, who is with Harry. I loved him last season when I rode him in work and then he went and bolted up in his bumper."

I’m really excited to see this one over hurdles.
