  • He’s another typical Nicholls chaser that will take in the Challow and then probably the Ballymore in his hurdle year.
That’s how I see it after watching him and hearing connections talking.

    • Very impressed with that especially one with zero Hurdling experience. Takes some doing that in a hot little contest. Looks a bull of a horse. Every inch a chaser in the making. Probably take their time with him I'd say. Still love a price for the 2025 King George!!

Or get beat in the Challow, go back down in trip (before the festival) and go for the Supreme, a la Al Ferof.

        • Nice boost for the Supreme good thing.....

I was wondering whether Nicholls has run two against each other before in the Challow. I know he prefers to keep his good ones apart, but he seems to have so many suited to the midtrip this year that a run off between two of them might be a good thing to determine his best suited to the Ballymore.

He's said he'll have no choice but to do it this season.

              • CT looked a real plodder to me. Like many have said, will be seen to best effect over 3m and a fence in front of him. Very much doubt he has the turn of foot to win a Ballymore, however, we know that is the likely route he will go knowing Nicholls. Unless the AB win last year has given him a change of heart with regard the race... If he wants to take it easy then I don't see that being the situation.

                • It looked harder work than the ground suggested, always does at Chepstow I suppose, but he looked like the further the better imo, nobody else have a similar view?

Looked like a step up would be more beneficial than dropping back imo. Just shy of 2m4 on fairly soft Chepstow ground would indicate that to me.

Clearly very smart though, with a little tidying up of his jumping which will come with experience.

                  • I'd go with you Craigy. He certainly doesn't look like a step down in trip will be on the agenda .

Thanks. Was that generally, or specifically IRO the Challow?

I think that’s a tad harsh re plodder.
That was pretty soft today ground today.
I would like to see how he performs on better ground personally before judging.
Id be surprised if he went 3m this season.

Across the board really, from memory - I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah couldn't have him for a supreme after that run I'd say, looked like he wasnt far off being off the bridle for a couple strides before the turn in to me, although could well just have been race fitness and greenness still I suppose. But another furlong and a smidge in the Bally be perfect for him

Maybe plodder was a little harsh. However, to win a Ballymore you need to have speed and a turn of foot, which I didn't see today. Perhaps it was the ground, or perhaps it is the way Nicholls trains them/types of horses he has. I would be delighted if he is kept to the 2 1/2m trip as he looks a 3m to me with the intention of betting against him in a Ballymore.

                              • …..CT a general 12-1 Bally (best 14-1 Hills) after that win. General 16-1 Supreme but bits of 20-1 available.
