I’ve got many many novices covered for all 3 hurdle races and Slade Steel is not one of them

IMO it was a strong race , the deepest Novice Hurdle we've seen so far. The 2nd and particularly the 3rd both had decent back form and Gordon's 2nd string was no pushover. Gordon's horses are right on it ATM with everything winning so it was always going to be tough to beat them. Slade Steel was produced perfectly by Rachel and he jumped the last well and put daylight between him and the 2nd before staying on and winning a touch cosily. All this was despite the ground. For me he'll be so much better on Spring ground. He has everything you want in a Ballymore horse and can improve again on what he did yesterday.

I'd probably agree with you, although i think lobos makes a good point about the going, HDB is of the opinion he'll be better on better ground.
What i'd like to know though is if slade steel isn't good enough, who in your opinion so far is? And who that we haven't seen yet, could be?

They’re all better on better ground.
Not sure yet. Not seen enough of most horses.
But I’d happily rule out all that ran in the grade 2 yesterday for grade one festival race winning purposes.
Could easily be wrong but that’s the conclusion at the minute.
not on my laptop at minute but the ones from memory I have still got backed for the ballymore are
              Down memory lane
              predators gold
              gidleigh park
              farren glory

id be surprised if more than one actually runs in the race but happy to hold for now at the prices taken.

Would you not be looking to cash Farren Glory on a line through King of Kingsfield? If you think Slade Steel has no chance you'd probably have to give the same sort of chance to him no?

He’s a triple figure price on exchange bet after he won the bond.
hes been as big or near to it for the supreme
I was expecting news of injury to be honest
but as regards the form I just thought he did not get a clear run around the bend and had to sit
then got out and was going to do it easy but bunny hopped the last and still got up. Value for a lot more than what it looked. Much like last years winner. And it’s a grade one.
hes had to quicken twice and Gordon thinks he’s a three mile chaser so the ballymore at 100-1 was worth taking and wait and see his next run.
I do not see him as a likely winner but hope to trade this at some point or if he backs it up then let it run of course.

                  • I’d not be as fussed with the maiden form vs grade one form with regards king of kingsfield but understand what you mean and it would not surprise me if Slade steel beat farren glory at some point either. Although depending on prices I’d probably back farren

Agreed here. Listening to the owners son chatting at the start of the season, they thought the same. Obviously they can be surprised, but so far the track probably backs up their thoughts, good G2 horse.

Had to cover the 80/1 win today and Bartlett!

I'd say we've seen a better version of KOK at Fairyhouse as well though, the roguey nature of him will have enjoyed the better race pace than a maiden hurdle.

I'd probably disagree with that, the maiden hurdle was ran at a good pace, Jack purposely made sure of that because of the way he got beat by Redstone previously. You only have to look at how strung out they were down the back. Some 15 seconds quicker than the fishery, although that race was a farce tbf. You could argue King of Kingsfield might have improved for having a bit of cover in the Bond, but I don't really buy into that, he got to set his own fractions at Naas but just got beat by a better horse that outstayed him to the line. For what it's worth I don't think Slade Steel will win at Cheltenham on what we've seen so far, but I'll keep an open mind until the DRF. They are all open to any amount of improvement.
