I think he’d be a class act with a big chance in the Ryanair, whereas El Fabiolo looks to have everything to take over the 2m division.
If Energumene is Mullins best dart in the Ryanair then that’s where he’ll go, assuming all is well with El Fabiolo…

I can’t see them turning down the chance of a hat trick myself. I think both run will run in the champion chase. He’s not a bet until nrnb as if they do the unlikely switch it won’t be until the last minute in case anything happens to el fab.

ADV is the value now in the Mares Chase with some 8/1 still floating about, the battle with Impervious flattened her for the end of last season. I’ve just done a El Fabiolo, Conflated, GDC & ADV four fold…

Yes I'd be very surprised if he ran in the Ryanair

El fab and him will be seperated pre Cheltenham then clash there

I think Allaho might hold the key to this, of he is fit and has the form to do himself justice I think Mullins would be more inclined to let the pair of 2 milers battle it out, but if Allaho doesn’t come back and the yard have no credible option for the Ryanair I believe there’s every chance we’ll see Energumene step up…

Even if Energ goes to March unbeaten Ista?

Cant for the life of me see that myself.

              Mullins will map it out

Energ - Hilly way / Clarence House
El Fab - Rewards Club Chase / Dublin Chase

Both 'likely' to winning them 2 races prior to the festival as opposition looks thin on the ground.

The only way I see Energumene going to the Ryanair is if he's beaten prior the festival and doesn't look like he has the speed for 2m anymore.

Saint Sam, Kilcruit, Blue Lord, Saint Roi, Sir Gerhard, Bronn, Appreciate It are all solid 'Tier 2' class horses that could easily become very credible contenders in that division.

Personally think it will be a disgrace if Willie didn't send Energumene to try become a 3x Champ Chase winner unless theres sufficient evidence he wouldn't be able to compete at that top level at THAT distance.

News of Impervious is perhaps a reminder of why this kind of theme is worth considering. The approach to deliberately go against the grain can really pay dividends. Injuries are one thing, but we see short priced favourites turned over every year. It’s precisely why the filthy antepost multiples go astray most years.

I would be seriously considering an each way Yankee to get the likes of Constitution, El Fab, Delta, Galopin, etc beat. Three of those four races have a lot of previous history of favourites not making the race. It’s all a game if chance, so rolling the dice can pay dividends, and the place part of alternative bets can be worth it anyway.

State Man, Jonbon, Conflated, and Gerri Colombe would be a shorter price version of the alternative bet, but there are bigger priced alternatives that people may like better.

Yeah it would be odd, and potentially a shame as you've said, but the yard are all about winners not romance and history, this is the trainer that sent Quevega to the Mares hurdle six times without a giving her a shot at a championship.
If Mullins thinks he can win the Champion Chase with El Fabiolo and the Ryanair with Energumene then that's where I think they'll go, or potentially (but less likely) the other way round, he would rather have two winners than the forecast and an hour off.
As I said, Allaho could be key to this, if he comes back fit and well and heads to Ryanair in A1 then yes I think we'll see the other two in the Champion Chase...

Another angle to consider is that Willie doesn’t seem to mind sending Energumene to Britain for the Clarence House. This year, he’ll come up against similar opponents to last year, and Jonbon who is perhaps the most talented 2m chaser this side of the Irish Sea.

So it’s plausible that Willie keeps his premier 2m chasers apart; but Energumene still gets beat. If El Fab is destroying all before him in Ireland, then the Ryanair must become an option.

I’d imagine Energumene would have an entry in both though. He’d surely run in the CC no matter what if it came up soft or worse.

He’ll probably get a Stayers hurdle, Gold Cup and Kim
Muir entry as well if Mullins is true to form….

On the topic of the Ryanair. Do we think the Cheveley Park team will be OK running both Allaho and Envoi Allen in the Ryanair ?

I'm thinking they may give Allaho his chance in the GC if he came back at his best. Probably be his last season anyway.

                          • I couldn't be having allaho on my mind for anything, at the moment but if anyone can get him back near his best it's willie mullins.

My thinking too. Have a go at the King George and if it goes well have a punt at the Gold Cup. They know he stays. Won the Punchestown Gold Cup over 3m last time out April 2022 and plenty of 3m evidence as a Novice Hurdler and Novice Chaser. Only issue is the 10 Year old stat against him in Gold Cup. As you say. Last chance saloon. He who dares Rodders.

I hear you and I am actually coming very much from the I really like Envoi Allen for the Ryanair and am hoping Allaho thinking for Cheveley doesn't get in the way of Envoi Allen coming back to win again.
