Hi Guys. I’ll start by saying that I’m putting this post up with our leader @kevloaf’s permission. Kev has all the details with regards what I’m posting, and he has given me some valuable feedback in advance. Also a few of you are guys that I know a little better are also aware because I asked for your input and thoughts. And I’m pleased to say some of you have also got involved.
So let me start by saying, I plan to retire from my business next year, and I have taken the decision to spend more time on my involvement in racing. As such, in advance of that, I’m taking the first steps towards setting up some small syndicates, ideally sourcing horses that are ‘Saturday Horses’, that have the potential to run in and win graded jumps races. I’m not really interested in buying horses that run every other week in low grade stuff around the gaff tracks.
To start off I recently bought The King Of Ryhope from Jared Sullivan and Chris Giles, and whilst not wishing to publicly go into the reasons for their ownership split, I was very fortunate to have the right conversation at the right time, and I’ve bought him for the right money. He’s in training with Dan Skelton, and he was a horse that I was already aware of from my discussions with Dan last season. Needless to say, he is a horse that we both have high hopes for graded success now he goes novice chasing. He has been looked after and given time to grow and strengthen up, and Dan has essentially followed the same route that his old boss Nicholls does with the horses that he thinks will make his best chasers. He had a light hurdles campaign last season but won and placed in very good races. In short, he is a very exciting horse to own. ‘The King’ will also be the very first horse to run in the Spectre Racing colours, and he’s a horse that I believe will help to build the Spectre Racing brand for the future. I hope his success will provide a platform for future commercial syndicates.
The King Of Ryhope is being sold in one tenth shares with all training fees and expenditure included to the end of the coming season. A one tenth share constitutes ownership, and all the associated benefits of ownership, including all the involvement and prizemoney you would have as an owner. Because I’m not trying to make any money out of this, the syndicate is set up in such a way that owners aren’t exposed to any additional or unexpected costs. I will be one of the joint owners myself, I’ll do all the organising around race days and stable visits, and regularly communicate around wellbeing and plans. Plus, I’ll carry all risks with things like unexpected vet bills. The benefit to me is that by having success on the racecourse with ‘The King’, it will give me an opportunity to build both awareness and a brand, prior to buying horses to syndicate on a commercial basis for the next season and beyond. Consequently, the cost of a tenth share I suspect is considerably less than you would expect.
The principle behind this is that I want to make The King Of Ryhope, and all future horses I buy, an easy cost controlled way to get involved with very good horses at a fraction of the price you’d usually expect to pay for this type of horse. All in a way that makes ownership as frictionless as I can make it. I hope this type of ownership would be particularly attractive to someone who hasn’t been involved in ownership before, whilst still attracting people who like syndicate owned horses to spread their involvement in racing.
Through The King Of Ryhope I want to get feedback from the owners about what works well, what less so, and all suggestions that may enhance the experience that I can use and incorporate for the future. When buying new horses and putting commercial syndicates together next year, I want to make the experience the very best it can be by balancing the cost and experience of ownership, with the service received, alongside the quality and potential of the horse. It would also be good to get endorsements/testimonials from the partners to use in future collateral.
Rather than discuss the finer detail for all to see on a forum, if you have an interest in being involved, have any thoughts that may help me, or if you’re just curious, could you send me a private message, or preferably an email at spectreracingsyndicate@gmail.com. I can send all the details over to review and consider, which includes all details on Spectre Racing and what it involves, A full in depth biography on The King Of Ryhope that as racing enthusiasts you may just find interesting anyway (he's going to win some nice races!!!), and also the contract that would be in place if you got involved. Given I'm selling him at well under the usual market value of his type I will have to do things on a first come first served basis just in case. Do let me know what you're interest is though, even if you're just a lurker that would be a casual supporter of the horse, and I can send information accordingly.
Thanks
Paul
