  • May 2023 Yankee

Well, we seem to have a few of the shorties on board with 3 of the 4 April selections at 5-1 or shorter. Mind you, there was no place for GDC or CH but I suppose the uncertainty over target for CH makes him risky at short odds.

I think the two productive Yankees last season came from the flat racing months, so hopefully we can get our heads together and give MoM some ammunition to make his selections.

….I’ll suggest Nick Rockett 25-1 (BANC) who got a few positive mentions last month after a strong case was put up by Saxon in his diary, & Banbridge (Ryanair) 16-1 who remains a decent price because JoB often keeps one or two for Aintree.

Be Good to have some decent price Horses , in one of these yankee's .
        With targets fairly clear , i am going to suggest ..... Nick Rockett ......... - b.a.n.c. . - 20-1 / 25-1 .
        .................................................. .............................. Goodland ................ - turners - 20-1.
        .................................................. .............................. Stage Star.............. r/air chs . - 16-1.
        .................................................. .............................. The Real Whacker - gold cup - 20-1 .
        -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick R. seem's popular here ,. Bazza has said chasing and mid trips for G.L , Nicholls has already namechecked .
the r/air for Stage Star , i'm happy to put a line through the aintree run , and S. S. has the all important Cheltenham Form.
.. The Real Whacker beat Gerri Colombe and is three times the price . . and , again has the Cheltenham Form. .
Sure there are other Gem's lurking out there . .

I agree BC .... firm destinations, but a reasonable ew price would be good. Nick R I am happy with.

Otherwise, I'd suggest Kilcruit for the Ryaniar. Surely they've cracked him now; cashing over the mid trip on good spring ground. That run at Punchestown was impressive. Rated 169 RPR which is equal to Envoi Allen's win this year and Impervious' weight adjusted best. 25/1 for the race. With doubts about Allaho and no obvious candidate for Willie otherwise (this years crop or novices coming through) I'd be quite confident this is where he heads.

Interesting. Not sure how these summer chasers fair later in the year. He'd not get a Summer off would he as the Plate is first week of August usually.

I know he didn’t impress many but at 25/1 I think there’s value in getting Maxuum in for the NH Chase.
Will need plenty more experience to get his jumping where it needs to be but with his engine and guaranteed top jockey booking he could be a big player….

Just got a 143 RPR for his Chase debut win

Could improve plenty on that, with a better round of jumping the next day.

Absolutely, and I’d be fairly sure Elliott knew he needed experience and was exactly why he was kept going into May.
I’d like to see him out again soon then put away.
I have some on at 25/1 and will be looking to press…

Right on cue Sky shorten Maxuum into 14/1.
So annoying when your account is restricted to pennies, you need the price to hold for a while whilst you chip away at the max.
                              So so frustrating...
