2024 Champion Hurdle (Previously Constitution Hill thread)

'Henderson confirmed at the end of last month that he would look to school Constitution Hill over fences before he takes an end of season break, ready to begin putting plans in place for next season.
However, he revealed that the six year old is yet to be tested over the larger obstacles at home. He continued: “We haven’t tried him yet, to be honest with you we’ve all been away at Cheltenham and then Ayr. We only ran him about 10 days ago, so if anything we might think about it soon but the ground is probably a bit fast at the moment.
“I should think we’ll go to Sandown on Saturday with him and then we’ll see. The weather is a bit unpredictable at the minute.”
Does sound ominously like they'll stay over Hurdles to me.

Unibet shortened big time this morning from 7/4 to 11/8 for champ hurdle, bearing in mind they’ll have reasonable information before anybody else.
i think the key thing is he only go’s chasing if they of reasonable confidence he could win a Gold Cup - there is simply no kudos winning a Champion Chase over a Champion hurdle.
The 6/4 with Paddy’s could, bearing in mind no other bookie is moving a jot from 4/6 or shorter, be a steal for the champ hurdle bid come next March.

Apologies for sounding a touch ‘argumentative’ Darlo, no offence offered towards you, but I know the amount of ricks Oddschecker offer daily with updates. But most importantly, it’s a market I’m keeping more than an eye on, specifically with Unibet’s partnership with Seven Barrows. A market I continually check out 2-3 times a day, regardless of a wrong selection 11 months in advance.
PP’s are now the stand out at 6/4.

Has anyone heard any comments about plans for Marine National next year ?
Controversial view alert, should he line up against Constitution Hill in whatever race they tackle I wouldn’t be shocked if it wasn’t the walkover many believe….

Is that team Marine Nationale’s plan ?
I’ve read/heard nothing…
I would say the Champion Hurdle route is more likely but he has a lot of schooling done over fences and jumps brilliant, so it is an option. He’s only run three times over hurdles and while his jumping was very good at Cheltenham, Michael (O’Sullivan) felt there was room for improvement, he was still hanging in the air a bit which Champion Hurdle horses don’t do. That will come with experience.
“Assuming Constitution Hill goes chasing, there’s probably a vacancy. There’s no Hurricane Fly or Annie Power around in the Champion Hurdle, so that is probably the way we are leaning. Good Land (Dublin Festival Grade One winner) will go chasing for sure, though. He ran OK at Cheltenham, if a bit flat, but he’ll be exciting over fences"
Reads like CH is certainly a factor in decision making. Echoes his post race comments at Cheltenham

So, the word is out on RTE this evening - Jane Mangan & Hugh Cahill discussing news that Constitution Hill’s first schooling over fences on Tuesday was not great.
6/4 on Paddy Power on the champ hurdle…..
Unibet shortening a few days ago…..
