  • Where will they go ?

Thought it would be interesting to see where people thought these horses would end up going next festival.
    Constitution Hill
    State man
    Impaire et passe
    marine nationale

    I’d say as follows:

    Constitution Hill - Arkle
    State Man - Champion Hurdle
    Impaire Et Pass? - Turners
    Marine Nationale - Arkle

The way Impaire jumps hurdles, giving them so much air, it’d be a shame not to see him over a fence. Interesting that Willie has intimated the Champion Hurdle route could be open for Impaire, State Man, Lossie, and Vauban. Il Etait Temps won’t jump a fence either. Would be some team!

      Gut feeling is:

Con Hill - Champ Hdle (would much rather see him going over fences, a new challenge, instead of mopping up champ hdles but that's just my opinion)
State Man - Champ Hdle (Willie alluded to it being hard to find a proper 2m champ hdler and he's got one in SM)
IEP - Turners, he's an absolute weapon and will dominate the novice chasing division next year.
Marine Nationale - Barry Connell says Arkle, so who are we to doubt him?

I'm not sure there would be any appetite to send Constitution Hill to the Arkle, if they were to send him chasing then a couple of novice chases followed by the Champion Chase maybe ? What would he be in an Arkle, 10s on ? and how many take him on ?
Taking on Energumene and El Fabiolo a better test maybe, especially if the 2024/25 route is to the Gold Cup.
That said I would say he stays hurdling.
I think Hendo will go 'all in' Shishkin Gold Cup next year...

I think Marine Nationale will go Arkle based on the trainer comments. I think it's basically worth considering two scenarios:

            1) CONSTITUTION HILL GOES CHASING:

Personally - at the moment - I think that would mean:

            Constitution Hill - Arkle
            State Man - Champion Hurdle
            Impaire et Passe - Turners

I don't think there is anything coming from the novice hurdle ranks to threaten State Man if there is no Constitution Hill and he will only be 7.

Henderson is a pretty conservative trainer. I think - if Constitution Hill does go chasing - then he will go Arkle at 7 and then open company at 8.

Mullins has talked about Impaire et Passe going to the Champion Hurdle but my hunch is that they will come down on chasing and dodge Constitution Hill.

            2) CONSTITUTION HILL STAYS HURDLING:

            Constitution Hill - Champion Hurdle
            State Man - Arkle
            Impaire et Passe - Turners

In this scenario, I think Mullins will think no point in keeping State Man over hurdles to get beaten again and may consider chasing.

FWIW I think Henderson wants scenario 2 and Buckley scenario 1. I also think we won't know until September earliest.

This is why im finding it hard to play anything in the novice chases until we know what CH is doing, im inclined to back stateman and hope CH does go chasing but its way too short for that..going to be an awkward one to guess at, id only be playing the BANC as i doubt hed gonfor that if sent chasing…my gut is they would do what the real whacker was going to do this year, go to the dipper then see if hes good enough for a crack at the gold cup as a novice

Nightmare for AP punters not knowing where C Hill will turn up. Can't back any in any of the following races with confidence........ Champion Hurdle, Arkle, Champion Chase, Turners, BANC or even the Ryanair.

If constitution does go chasing im really hoping they have some bollocks and go for the champion chase, Arkle would be a walkover as I think Barry connell mentioned it’d be the Arkle unless Constitution switched to chasing then they’d target the champion instead.

I'd be reasonably confident they wont go back to the Champion Hurdle based on, erm, nothing other than my own opinion, which would be
                    :
                    1) I've always picked up from the owner at least that they have an eye on going for the GC at some point and finding out/hopefully confirming just what an all-time talent he really is (This clip from a recent interview is encouraging me to stick with that feeling: https://twitter.com/RacingTV/status/1634851837705613312). Which for me means going chasing next and using that first year to pick up the biggest prestige race along the way, the Champion Chase. How many have been the best 2m novice, champion hurdler, champion chaser and Gold Cup winner? We aren't dealing with a normal horse here, not even a normal great horse. If he went Arkle and CC then he'd be 9 for his first shot at a GC. They could always go for one of the other two novice options, but I really think it'll be about doing something incomparable.

                    2) I get that most mere mortals would kill to have a Champion Hurdle runner never mind a winner or multiple winner, but in this scenario, what would be the point?! Unless 2 miles is his ceiling, which it almost certainly isn't, he's made the biggest statement of a win he ever could and is unlikely to reoppose anything better than State Man next year for legacy/rating purposes. If they stuck with the CH it'd be an odds on procession every year he turns up and the lingering feeling of what more he was capable of achieving.

I've backed Constitution Hill for the Champion Chase because that's the race I want him to go to. If he could win a Supreme, a Champion Hurdle, a Champion Chase and a Gold Cup in successive seasons then he'll go down as the greatest NH horse of all time and it'll never be done again. That's what I and I suspect the majority of punters want to happen and IMO the owner feels the same.

If they slip an Arkle in there then I'll be gutted and the same if they decide on multiple Champion Hurdles or any other races. He simply has to go Champion Chase to be the GOAT. Do it !!!!!!!

I’m going to try & be more selective with roll ups next season after going a bit hung ho with them this season, but the target for all of them early doors will be Constitution Hill & Impaire Et Passe TWAR.

Is it maybe worth starting a thread for trainer quotes for next season?

Hendo is too conservative and safe in his thinking imo. If he had his own way, we wouldn't even be talking about Constitution Hill going chasing and he would be just happy letting CH win the next 3 or 4 champion hurdles. However, Michael Buckley is something else and CH has caught the public's imagination meaning that he'll want him to go chasing but with the safety net of staying in novice company in his first year imo.

I don't think Constitution Hill needs ANY safety net !
