Good stuff MoM but why would you think ground was an issue for Flooring Porter this year ?
Fresh Thursday ground, only the Pertemps had been run on it so it hadn’t been opened up and the light rain that fell all day probably helped get rid of any sticky/gluey patches.
I agree he represents a bit of value at 25/1 but think it was more likely a poor prep this year that cost him…
I do think the prep was the main issue for him but I think the weather just made his already difficult task harder. I think horses can get away with worse preps on better ground than on softer conditions. It felt at the time that it was still softer than it officially was after that pouring on the Wednesday. I also think that his run style (hard off the front) makes him more susceptible than many to struggling if he’s not 100% and fully fit. Whilst I’m sure he was fit enough to run and he did run well, i have no doubt that wit( a better prep he’d have gone a lot closer. He just didn’t have it in the legs. Even the opposition he will be against will be weaker than this year in my opinion with the top novice hurdlers going to be surely over fences. He’s a crazy price all things considered.
