  • FJ Day Overall Yankee - Captain: Mighty

As is (now) tradition, the winner of the Diamond Geezer Cup is the Captain of the Overall Yankee: Mighty

You are in complete control of the yankee. Your decision is final. If you want to do win only, each way, get people to vote, pick it all youself, pick ones with nice colours - it's all fine. (Any race, any day.

    YOU decide. We follow.

Final selection to be put up on Sunday 12 March, by 18:00 please.

    Thanks Kevloaf for the honour.

Plenty of different ways of doing this, but my preference would be for an EW yankee, so I'd be grateful if you'd nominate your best EW shout at around 5/1 plus for each day. I think there's plenty of value to be found across the days so get your nominations in, ideally with a short explanation, and let's get the debate going. I will be guided by popularity, but not be a slave to it, so make your case!

There is no logical case for 3 horses finish ahead of Apprecaite It in the Turners.

Dinoblue is handicapped really well ... they'll keep Andy Dufresne in to keep the racing weight for her..... she scoots up. Can't be out of the frame and still an e/w price.

They're my two from the top of my head

            Will she run?

I was always under the impression, with the exception of the mares only races that Willie tends to keep his novices in novice company, though I may be wrong about this?

Chemical Energy, NH Chase - Elliotts no.1 in a race he’s got a good record in, good performance over the course earlier in the year, will have the top amateur onboard, pipe opener a few weeks ago was much needed & should put him spot on.

Beacon Edge, Coral Cup - Classy horse who has run well at the track before but just not got home over further, rated 145 but at his best he’s a mid 150’s horse, same prep as last years winner for same owners, think the distance will be perfect.

Flooring Porter, Stayers - Obvious case if he arrives firing, just a big if at the moment. Not looked great so far this season but the big occasion & a course he loves could easily bring him back to his best.

Favori De Champdou, Bartlett - Think him & Corbetts Cross have looked the best of the bunch so far, and he’s nearly 3 times the price. I have fancied him to hose up in the Martin Pipe off his mark, so Elliott must really rate him to send him here into such an open race.

                ….I’d be tempted to include a few forum favourites, so just two from me. Cases strongly made elsewhere and both will be in (almost) everybody’s books. I’ll nominate;

                Tuesday - Nassalam (Ultima) 8-1.
                Weds -
Thurs - Frero Banbou (Plate) last of 14-1 still available.
                Fri -

It’ll be a good week for all if those two come in as part of a Yankee.

My best each way fancies on each day:-

                              Tuesday
Reckon Vauban is a steal for place money in the Champion Hurdle (to start a dirty ew Yankee). An alternative next best for me on Day One (with a good winning chance ) would be Brandy Love at a decent single figure price for the Mares' Hurdle.

                              Wednesday
Quite like a lot at ew prices... including Inthepocket (Ballymore), Icare Allen (Coral Cup), both Third Time Lucki & Thyme White (Grand Annual) and Captain Teague (Bumper). Would definitely nominate Third Time Lucki (on decent ground) but considering the latest weather/forecasts I'd maybe go for Thyme White now.

                              Thursday
I mostly favour short priced horses on Day Three. I'd nominate Appreciate It (currently around 9/2) as one I couldn't see out of the first 3 and with good win claims.

                              Friday
Quite like a lot at ew prices... including Sharjah (on decent ground) (County), both Three Card Brag & Seabank Bistro (A.Bartlett) and Stattler (Gold Cup).

So maybe... Brandy Love, Thyme White, Appreciate It and Three Card Brag as options for an ew Yankee
