  • FJ Day Three (Thursday) Yankee - Captain: Guinness Village

The captain of the Day One Fat Jockey Yankee is: Guinness Village

You are in complete control of the yankee. Your decision is final. If you want to do win only, each way, get people to vote, pick it all youself, pick ones with nice colours - it's all fine. (As long as they're all running on the Tuesday )

    YOU decide. We follow.

Final selection to be put up on Sunday 12 March, by 18:00 please.

Chucking a big priced one out there for the Thursday in Battleoverdoyen for the Plate - I made a case for him in my diary thread, and I'm even stronger on him after his latest run over 2m and the fact Mars Harper for the same trainer/owner combination, who I thought would have been their first string for the Plate, decided to run at the weekend at Leopardstown and probably won't turn up now. He's been campaigned in his last 5 runs like a plot job, being run over 3m and 2m but not at the intermediate trip. It's strange to run a horse as such varying distance if you're not looking to get his mark down, and so because of this his mark is down now to 140 in Ireland and he's been given 144 for the Plate. He's also come for some support, albeit it probably doesn't take mountains of cash, but he was 66's, then 50's now he's top price 40's which I imagine will be next to go. Now, I'm not saying he's a god given certainty, not by any stretch but I think he'll run a big race over the right trip, at a big price, whether that's enough on the day, I honestly won't know until we get to that point.

Balco Coastal in the plate ?
Hendo been sweet on him ever since he got him, was very well touted for the Imperial Cup last year before the overnight deluge did for him.
10/1 ish still there, looks OK….

I think he'll be in the Turners? Might have to be a late call

He'd have a far better chance in the Plate.

Jetara bigger price and ahead of Halka Du Tabert last time

I do like both, I like Jetara a lot though! Each way.... if Luccia isn't as good as she looked or comes off the bridle and finds nothing, or the Irish are just better, then Jetara and HDT are reet in the mix with Ashroe Diamond!

                  Isn’t he a poor traveller?

I guess that has to be in the back of your mind, but I don't know if that was the reason given for his two runs at the festival to date?

Both runs were in G1's, so it could be he just wasn't that good, which I think has probably been proven since then, but that doesn't mean he can't be well handicapped.

Yeah couldn't put you off Jetara at a price. Although I'm quietly confident HDT can turn around the form with a better ride from Davy, it was strange that he took it up but then went a crawl. Especially when you look back at her win when Jack made loads of use out of her, this time round I expect a more aggressive ride from the front. The question is how good is Luccia, if she's as good as people think she might just be able to go the pace set by HDT and quicken again.

Very competitive race though and wouldn't be surprised if one of about 8 won it.

I seem to remember it was what they put the run in the ballymore down to but my memory might be playing tricks

No chance and ista knows it.
he’s trolling me by deliberately putting up horses rated over 150 that are running in graded races anyhow

Liking it already. It’s a great privilege and honour to take the Thursday Yankee at the festival. Probably the most difficult day for me, so would appreciate the advice and opinions coming in.
with 4 graded races and 3 handicaps, we could go win or eachway. Hopefully some enhanced places on the mares novice and stayers as well as the 3 handicaps.

My gut feeling is to try an eachway Yankee and take on the three shorties. They won’t all win, as we know.
We should by Monday have a fair idea of prevailing weather and ground, and a little more knowledge as to the target of one or two.
possibly with the exception of shishkin, because even I could win on him
