  • FJ Day One (Tuesday) Yankee - Captain: HesTheOne

The captain of the Day One Fat Jockey Yankee is: HesTheOne

You are in complete control of the yankee. Your decision is final. If you want to do win only, each way, get people to vote, pick it all youself, pick ones with nice colours - it's all fine. (As long as they're all running on the Tuesday )

    YOU decide. We follow.

Final selection to be put up on Sunday 12 March, by 18:00 please.

Corach Rambler in the Ultima - I appreciate this is going against the Naiad, but I assume the majority of members would have already got him in the bag plenty, so an alternative, and, IMO, the most likely winner of the race, is last seasons winner of the race, Corach Rambler. I realise the argument will be made that he's being aimed at the Grand National, but that doesn't stop him going extremely well in this race again, if not winning it. He's up 6lbs from last seasons run in the race but won the race last season going away, looking like he had plenty more in the locker. He can be awkward, but Derek Fox knows how to handle him, and is actually a very good jockey from off the pace, IMO. His run LTO was not without hope that he retained all of his ability, that was in one of the right 'trial' races for this race too, and his record at Cheltenham is good, winning 2 from 2. He's obviously not a huge price, but he's a solid bet, in my opinion.

Wild one could be Zandabad in the Fred Winter, 16/1 I think…

What a fantastic day to be handed.. where do we even start?

We've the Supreme, Arkle, Champion Hurdle, Mares Hurdle, NHC, Boodles, Ultima

Surely we can find 4 good yokes to launch us in the stratosphere on Day 1.
        - Supreme: Funny race, plenty want to take on FV understandably may be some juice on those further down. We do have plenty at top of the market who wont show IEP, Luccia etc.

        - Arkle: Looks a 2 and 1/2 horse race.. Do we plant our flag on 1 of Jonbon or El Fab or look at someone to pick up the pieces like Saint Roi?

        - Champion Hurdle: No real interest playing the place market here, I'd be on for a CH + lengths win but understand its not always an option to everyone

        - Mares Hurdle: Super competitive and there is still some juice at the top of the market. A great race for the yankee I think

        - NHC: Do we take on GDM and with whom? Don't have a super strong opinion interested what others think

        - Boodles: Competitive race and certainly folks on here can pick out some value

        - Ultima: Again no strong opinion, we have the Naaid but am sure a few are more than happy to take him on

Preference would be for a win only based on the purple but lets here some case for those in green where there may be some e/w value

Kevloaf can you stick the above on your post#1 for some FJ inspiration and guidance

I think Dysart Dynamo has a rock solid each way chance and a win chance, whereas Saint Roi only a place chance....

Jonbon vs El Fabiolo you'll never get a decision and to be honest, neither are good value compared to the other?

When we pick on the Sunday it won't have 8 runners though actually so completely ignore Saint Roi and Dysart Dynamo ..... terrible picks for that yankee haha

The 16/1 currently available about Cougar in the Boodles (as short as 10's elsewhere) wont last and is a great EW leg IMO.

Connections won the Boodles last year. I fancy a repeat and believe Cougar is a better candidate than Brazil.

He was a much better flat horse, he's a much better jumper, he's less exposed over obstacles and ticks pretty much every major trend going.

That run at Down Royal was seriously eye catching IMO and it's a race won by lots of horses who end up placing in the Triumph.

He ran to an RPR of 129 and was worth way more than the winning margin suggested, put two 1's next to his name before being taken care of in the G1.

Mark Walsh went out of his way to find traffic, conceal his ability (watch how he pinged the last) and finish down the field.

Connections have purposefully avoided running him since which was a mistake (IMO) they made with Brazil, and he won off 137 carrying 11-9.

Cougar was rated 92 on the flat and if you add 45 pounds to his flat rating to approximate his NH rating he's a 137 horse racing off a mark of 127.

He clearly loves his new job and jumps hurdles low and fast like a proper 2 miler. I love it and doubt there is a better jumper in the field.

Tekao is 7/2 and Cougar is 16/1 and I think the price differential is madness myself.

With the solid case for Cougar above and the love for Brady on here.... it is hard not to get excited for this.
It'll be a stiff test for both. Could be a climatic end!

Dirty each way on Il Etits Temps?
