Thanks Green Goddess. Yes, we've seen that over prediction even in these times of technology but I guess, like opinion polls, margins of error have to be factored in.

Are you local to the course as it's also valuable to hear as well from those based either in Cheltenham or close by. Hope we get the on the ground view over the course of the next week.

For some reason that always happens when you try to attach photos. You need to host the image online and use html tags to get it to work

      To post photos

Upload your picture to a public image sharing site like imgur

Right click on it once it's up and select "copy image address"

Paste the link between these image tags

Is the Met Office not a reliable source ?
They show barely a raindrop will fall between now and Sunday...

According to my phone app, there is a chance of rain 7 of the next 10 days, varying from 40% to 70%

I think they're very good. But do find they underpredict rainfall where others overpredict.

I'm not local but be great to know if someone is on the ground. Hartpury College and Cirencester are the nearest weather stations.

You can also track actual rainfall here - https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/chel...ers/the-going/

                I'm 20 minutes away...

Think we had some drizzle last night and this morning, but that's about it. Generally cold and grey but no proper rain.

The 5 day farmers' forecast on BBC1's Countryfile on Sundays is decent because they go in detail about the uncertainties. Yesterday they showed two alternative models which showed the extremes of the possible for Thursday. They are favouring the initial snow turning to rain but one American model shows the weather front much further south and the UK mostly dry.

                      Thank you, Green Goddess.

This is a nightmare scenario for the clerk. They’ve been watering extensively the last few weeks given the dry Feb. Presumably with this forecast he has had to stop. With the frost sheets likely going down for a few evenings this week too, you’d think he can’t water any more. If the rain hits, because of the regular watering being done (when he said 2 weeks out the forecast showed no significant rain), if could certainly go soft. If the rain misses though, with no watering a week before on what is already GS, it could be rattling quick.

Difficult. What I do know is that my book would much prefer it to be good ground not heavy ground!!

Looking those brutal sub zero temperatures that were forecast won't materialise now, so they're unlikely to deploy the frost covers which means they can continue watering if necessary.
Some showers around and today might see something a bit heavier but expect the hoses to be on a fair bit all week...

He must have balls of steel and he’ll need thick skin if he waters this week and then gets a ton of rain later this week and over the weekend! Surely, he won’t risk making the same mistake as Tues/Wed last season, when he watered in the evening and it was “Heavy” come mid afternoon on Wed?!

Clerk has confirmed no further watering planned at this time....could introduce closer to festival if needed.

                            Squeaky bum time.

That reads to me as code for “Bugger. I really hope I haven’t watered too much already given this forecast.”

Hope they’ve had as much rain as we’ve had in the north west today!
