I think the opposite....I don't think they have the ability to water the xc course in full

They’ve always claimed they don’t have the ability to water the XC course but in an interview a week or two back Pulin said they’ve applied water to all three courses, maybe they bought an extension, who knows.
My understanding is the reason the XC always rides quicker is because the drainage system was put in before they created the XC course so rainwater collected from the 2 standard courses is collected and drains away before getting it collects on the XC course because you would naturally assume that water collects there…

Instead of painting the Town with anti piss paint perhaps they should have invited punters to pee on the XC course??

I don’t think punters have been allowed in the middle of the course since 2020 festival.
Always feel sorry for the burger van there…

              • Depending on when anyone checks this link, as I type it's just before 9am on Saturday, and it is mostly soft, when the Clerk issues a new update, hopefully later this morning, will we see a similar picture or has the last 24 hours had some drying effect? No idea, but those of you who are local will know more than me.

This year the immediate pre Festival weather has been more interesting than it has been for a long time. I'm addicted to it.

                • looks like it has been bone dry overnight , local webcam shows dry ground, i reckon it will be good to soft by tonight and a mainly dry day tomorrow as well , he will be praying for rain on Monday or the pipe will be out

Radar on BBC has weather fronts coming through today and tomorrow just depends on whether they hit the track or not

                    • Given the forecast for Sunday/Monday and the week itself, there is absolutely no justification for watering at all. The festival is not about artificially manufacturing soft ground.

If it is good ground on Tuesday (it won’t be) and soft on Thursday, that is okay. You have to give horses of all types a chance. Artificially doctoring the ground to a type that suits some horses and not others is not fair and shouldn’t be done.

Obviously it needs to be safe but it will given it was soft yesterday. They have said they’d let nature take its course and they must.

                      • Heard the Clerk on The Morning Line as well. That map doesn't look much different to yesterday. As GG said earlier, the Clerk confirms Sunday night's rain, and its intensity, will set the scene for the week, or at least for the first two days.

                        • they haven't had a going stick reading since 7th of March , so we are relying on the clerk's boot heel for an accurate description , utter bollox in this day and age , i don't believe its soft ground any more

Saw that the forecast is for 30 hours on the trot with "some" rain in it at the course from Sunday evening until Midnight on Monday night, then a pretty dry Tuesday, before the rain starts again for the rest of the week.

I can see why SOFT is odds on fav for Tuesday, and Im looking only to make anymore picks from here-on in, that go on Soft ground, or excel on it.

The track may report ground dried out a bit from Soft on Sunday morning, but thats looking like it could be a false dawn for anyone hoping for Good to Soft on Day 1

I noticed that my Plate/Grand.Ann pick Elixir De Nutz (NRNB) hasnt been entered, after being entered for the Grand.Ann.

That could be the way to go with several horses with multiple options, some could now take the shorter trip on softer ground *(Stage Star for example)

                            • They'll start Soft G/S in places on Tuesday but it'll ride ok and they'll change the Ground to G/S Soft in places after the Champion Hurdle due to the drying wind.

                              That's my theory anyway !

                              • Morning everyone!

Latest runs have downgraded the amount of rain on Sunday evening/ Monday. The heaviest band seems to be passing further North. Range is still large (3mm to 20mm) due to localised nature of heavy bits but median is now 6mm.

Thursday looks less wet as well today but absolutely no agreement in models on that day yet so would just ignore forecasts for now.

There's definitely a case for Good to Soft on day 1 now, that wasn't there yesterday but again will all be down to volume of rain that lands Sin/Mon.

                                What a rollercoaster!
