  • February (& DRF) Yankees

    Not seen a thread for these. Last I knew was that Saxon Warrior was nominating a DRF Yankee but I may have missed it or it’s not happening.

    I read Middle_Of_March saying he has an idea for The February selections, I wonder if it might be handicap based.

    Will put up soon.
    Been getting some prices added to Oddschecker

        I'm waiting for a Pension Interview, so that could take an hour or so.

            ….you won’t need that discussion if your Yankee goes in.

              Maybe it's to check how much pension he can use to go on the yankee

                Right, here we go.

                I found it easy when looking at performances to pick three, that directly related to big performances that are still at prices I would use for a Yankee.

                The fourth was a bit more tricky, and I decided to go with one, after much deliberations past midnight last night, and for prices to be obtained to give a wider choice today.

                The easier three to pick were

                * Il Etait Temps (Supreme)
                * Gaelic Warrior (Ballymore)
                * A Dream To Share (Champion Bumper)

                Some of the reasons

                * Il Etait Temps
                * quick time,
                * Travelled like a dream
                * stayed on wonderfully well after the last to pulverise the opposition
                * Best novice RPR of the season, 11lb clear of Marine Nationale, but at a similar price.
                * If Facile Vega didnt like travelling at a strong 2M gallop then he might not like the Supreme pace, as its always a quicker Topspeed there than Sundays race was.

                * Gaelic Warrior
                * Unbeaten with RPRs of 150, 155, 155
                * 2nd top rated Novice hurdler
                * Seems to have a strong engine, apparently rolling around in the paddock post race, having a pick of grass!
                * Will probably be kept apart from Facile Vega and IET, and Ballymore mentioned by WPM plenty now.
                * Just won the best 2M hurdle race in Ireland off top weight easily (this is the formerly named Irish Sweeps Hurdle, and a topweight hasnt won this century until GW on Sunday)

                * A Dream To Share
                * Top Bumper horse, 140 RPR giving Fact To File 3lb +3L beating, well clear of the rest in the best Bumper of the season
                * Trainer stated post race hes headed here, and they've deliberately saved him back from the summer for the Champion
                * Theres not a high rated bunch in this division so its down to handful, and he's not even favourite yet, despite his perfomance

                The ones I pondered on adding as a 4th pick were
                Mighty Potter (Turners)
                State Man (Champion Hurdle)
                El Fabiolo (Arkle)
                All were too short for a Yankee for my liking, even though they have strong chances.

                The other one I passed over was
                Perceval Legallois (Pertemps)
                BUt with a 10lb weight rise in Ireland, plus some UK tax, he will be compromised a little on his new rating compared to his easy win off 125

                Please feel free to ignore my 4th pick if you wish and substitute one of the above in, if you have personal favs.

                But I have gone with my 4th pick as

                * Ballyadam (County Hurdle)

                Reasons:
                Rewatch his run on Sunday when 3rd to Gaelic Warrior, he ran a seriously good race off 142, IRE added 2lb to 144 now

                * Hes been 2nd in a Supreme, and 5th (btn 6L) in the County Hurdle last year off 144
                * He was on a bit of a downer last season, aborted chase campaign, btn 23L in the International Hurdle on a hurdles run, and then 20th in last years Liffey Hurdle at the DRF, btn 68 lengths.
                * In spite of that broken season, he travelled well, in a pocket at the back of the whole pack in the County Hurdle, blocked off then stayed on well, into 5th behind State Man.

                * This season (hadnt run since July) his winter debut after a 6-Month break he ran an eye-catching 3rd to Gaelic Warrior, looking strong enough at the finish too.
                * He equalled his best Hurdle RPR in Sundays race.
                * I expect UK capper to give him maybe a 145-146 rating, and he's in a much better place this season to run a better race at the Festival.

                I would probably urge you to find a NRNB set of prices for the Yankee, unless you like living more dangerously for small stakes at slightly bigger antepost prices.

                DRF Yankee

                * Il Etait Temps (Supreme)
                * Gaelic Warrior (Ballymore)
                * A Dream To Share (Champion Bumper)
                *
                Ballyadam (County Hurdle)

                @eggs
                will probably find the best bookies to do this with.

                I'm going to rush off now and look myself

                Good luck, and thanks for the invitation to have a swing at the post-DRF Yankee

                .

                      ….good work.

                      I reckon Bet365 are marginally best, with NRNB & BOG. Note that Gaelic is boosted 9/2 at the bottom of the market.

                      il Etait 9/2
                      Gaelic 9/2 (boosted at bottom of list)
                      A Dream 6-1
                      Ballyadam 10-1

                      Acca is 2,328-1 (Bet365; NRNB, BOG).

                          Thanks Saxon Warrior
                          But I refuse to back Ballyadam, have turned the other 3 into a kind of trixie with a combination of patent/trixie/doubles/treble to whatever the maximum stakes were.
                          Still pays OK…

                            I did the treble as well.
                            The form of 2 of the others is solid and the prices look reasonable value still.
                            Gaelic Warrior would have the toughest assignment IMO but I do think with an astute ride his jumping right can be negated, and I expect him to come to the stands side to jump the last and head for the stand rail. If he doesn't then he may lose too much ground to anything within touching distance. If he actually jumps right all the way around then he's fucked or would have to have a stone in hand, and I doubt that very much.
