I think 9/2 about Il Etait Temps (IET) is still very fair. The post race DRF script was all about FV disappointing, not about IET excelling. Understandable, given FV's reputation and it was a complete flop, but I think thats meant IET has gone under the radar. Using RPR's as a guide he's run to 134, 145 and now 158. 158 is really quite high and if you lift FV out the race he's beaten both Inthepocket and Dark Raven by 9 lengths - both of those went into the race unbeaten, so the form has real shape to it. I don't think we can take a form line through Irish Point literally because he looked like he was never put into the race, but I don't think Marine Nationale should be shorter than IET, no way in fact. IET feels like a rapidly improving 5 year old thats doing what a lot of these Mullins French recruits do and thats improve. We know IET handles Cheltenham which is a tick in the box that you can't put next to most his rivals and I think all things considered, the price is fair given the level he's run to and the fact he's trained by Willie. I'm not convinced we'll necessarily see FV in March and even if we did, connections of other horses will know that letting FV dictate a steadier pace from the front and quicken is handing him the race, so horses like HD will go and go hard, and we know that will suit IET. His achilles heel is his jumping and he can be messy, I think thats fair and its the only thing putting me off going in on him more than I already have!

Not sure you've got FV right there tbh. He's not a horse I'd have particularly suited to a slow gallop, although I'm aware his first two hurdles races look it. And judging by his bumper runs he's not a horse that needs to lead either. I wouldn't be surprised if Mullins was so annoyed by Townend because he wasn't even meant to go from the front the last day. Dropped in and a good gallop I'd expect to play into his hands.
No idea what my play will be on the day here though, I'm certainly not ruling out IET. He's probably my most likely one to cover. Just hoping we get a few decent offers and with it being the first race of the week usually do.

As per NH ATR stable tour, and no surprise, Jet Powered likely to bypass Cheltenham and maybe go Aintree and that'll be him done for the seasonLast edited by On The Fringe; 13 February 2023, 04:49 PM.

I like IET as much as the next man after the last day but bar FV not showing up he can’t go shorter can he ? PT will be on FV so deemed first string, every Mullins preview will be banging the FV drum expect to see the real FV nto etc. First race of the festival having to run on by 60,000+ nutters “roaring” it’s never not run at a clip is it, wouldn’t have any worries about a lack of pace.

I really hope there is something in the race that wants to make it; hopefully JOB sends High Definition (and Danny sits on his inside).

Vega was going to be my biggest bet of the week as I hadn't had a penny on him as a single. Not now though after his last run. I may still back him on the day but it'll be small stakes as my confidence in him has been severely dented.

Singles are still impossible but they were allowing me half decent stakes on multiples, when trying to place a patent the limit is low but I was able to add trixie, treble and doubles for (again) restricted stakes but it meant the total amount I could get on wasn't terrible.
I was pleasantly surprised....
