  • I think the ground was a massive factor in DW's favour last year. Very soft ground doesnt seem to affect him much. If its normal spring ground Galvin will be in his element and he's simply a much better horse in my eyes.

    • Jamie codd couldn't stop himself from grinning when asked about galvin for this race

Thinks he will take plenty of beating

        • Galvin has clearly had an issue he's been carrying this season or at least for the last two races where he's been way short of his best. They say that they've now sorted that (operation ?) but we will need to trust that's the case. I'm of the opinion they are just using this race as a prep for the GN and that they'll not want to leave his race at Cheltenham. I love him to bits but I can't see him troubling the judge this time.

I heard that he's had the same issue that Delta Work had last season.

              • Reckon prime Delta Work was as good, if not better, than prime Galvin to be honest. Being done a bit of a disservice here.

Who has more left these days is a bit of a guess to be honest. And Galvin in the younger horse, with less racing and most recently running in Grade 1s so I can see why there's a recency bias to him.

It's enough to put me off a max bet on Delta Work though

                  Delta Work beating Tiger Roll

That's enough to stop me getting 'silly' with Delta Work this year.

Bad vibes .... but forms too hard to use and be dogmatic about with regards to this race, as we've not seen the 2nd and 3rd in the market even have a go.

They have not tended to use the race as a prep in the past, I know different horses different approaches but they have a 4 week gap to play with this year. They went all out to win the x country and national for both tiger roll and cause of causes.

Delta work at his peak was a better horse than galvin at his peak definitely

He'd have gone very close in the gold cup if his jumping wasnt so sticky

                      He had a big engine

                      • I've only played the Delta Work Distance markets, but the Galvin entry potential scuppers these....

I may need to cover Galvin on the day..... only for Delta Work to still win, but by less than 3 lengths!!!

There wasn't much between them at their best, imo. Both were very well fancied when running in the GC and I don't think I'd have been confident of picking between them at the peak of their powers.

Any chance Galvin goes off favourite in this?

Every chance he could, especially if the ground stays good. They'll definitely be plenty closer in the betting than they are currently.

Earlier in the week I was hopeful we'd get some 4/1 about Galvin on the morning of the race, but that doesn't look likely now
