  • 2023 Hunter Chase

Not seeing a thread for this and there has been some discussion re Samcro who appears in some markets but is apparently ineligible to run.

I note Sporting Life column putting one up for this @ 25-1. Ferns Lock won a Hunter chase at Fairyhouse last week, covering the last 3 fences on the bridle quicker than Geri Colombe did. Seems to be in the same trainer/jockey combo as Vaucelet (D Christie/B O’Neil) so probably an unlikely runner but folk will start to have views on this race.

    Betting;
    Vaucelet 4-1
    Winged Leader 6-1
    Billaway 7-1
    Chris’s Dream 10-1
    Latenightpass 10-1
    Samcro 10-1 (apparently ineligible)

    Barry Maloney

    RPR 153h, 170c OR 145h, 165c
He's back in great form and working really well again. I was delighted with the piece of work he did the other day on grass. It looks like we're going to go down the hunter chase route with him.

Surely He'll be the one to beat if turning up in march?

As long as he meets the hunter chase criteria he will be, if my understanding of the cut off point for finishing placed in graded races is correct

Trainers quoted saying they are gonna mind Ferns Lock this year only 5 & looks more like a 2024 candidate.

Earmarked Winged Leader for Aintree over Chelt

….looked a very decent performance from Ferns Lock, certainly one for the notebook.

Rob Acheson said they plan on getting Chris's Dream qualified for this ASAP and then keep him and go fresh to the Hunters in March.

Chris’s Dream doubly entered in points this weekend
                Annamix also entered

Neither interest me but might be helpful to somebody

Chris’s Dream hoses up in a p2p today by 22L eased down from a good yardstick in Aloneamongmillions

Not lost in the betting at 10/1

He's a good horse isn't he, I find this race so complicated working out why they're running in it

ComplyOrDie will be on Annamix, that's a given.... probably was on Voix Du Reve against Constitution Hill yesterday

Hadn't even clocked Annamix going down this route.....im all in

No chance I'd be backing against Constitution Hill, but anything is possible with me, I guess

On his day he is certainly a class act

I have not covered him as I wasn’t sure they could get him back to anything like his previous form ( still not sure )

But it is the plan to qualify him in the next few weeks and he definitely is been aimed here

Personally prefer the younger horses coming through than the older experienced ones on the downgrade

Vaucelet and Good Bye Sam namely

I don’t follow the hunters chases very closely but having checked the market I find it interesting that Vaucalet is half the price of the reigning champ billaway - has he been hosing up in P2P’s?

Nothing between them on Punchestown running

however,Vaucelet is very much the up and coming horse who is expected to keep improving and is 3 years younger than Billaway

Vaucelet declared for Hunters Chase At Down Royal on 26th

Currently priced at a very mean 7/2 for festival

Could go ridiculously low if he wins this well in a race that has been a good prep for this in the past

Hoping for a win today and festival price but doubt it will be on bookies radar with so much else going on
