The other issue though is that all of her entries are over 2.5 plus from what I've seen so that isn't great for looking at the MNH (and I've backed her for it). I wouldn't be surprised that Nicky see's her as more of a stayer and doesn't go to Cheltenham with her. She maybe more of one for chasing next season or the season after due to her P2P background
She's had at least one over 2m before Christmas, possibly two, and one of the more recent ones was 2m3f I think, but yeah, she could be a staying type.

    • I'm discounting her now for the mares novice on the basis of her continually being entered in longer trips. The Fairyhouse grade 1 could be a potential target if she is talented over the further trip but she may be one for the Mares Chase next year as an ex point to pointer.

      • If she takes up an entry in the next fortnight (provided she’s good enough) I can see Nicky sending her to the listed mares race Love Envoi won last year at Sandown over 2m4f. That could either book her ticket or not.

The race hardly has a roll of honour of crack two milers has it? 2m1f on the stiffer new course takes some staying for young mares.

The roll of honour is pretty poor anyway.

Mares are incentivised after their novice campaign to go for the Mares Hurdle over 2m4 so not many of them even race again over 2m unless they have a chance of beating the geldings. Over the last 10 years, there's only Honeysuckle, Epatante and Annie Power that have proven they can beat the geldings. The rest have followed the mares programme which prioritises the mid distance.

It’s thrown up a few nice mares over the short spell it’s been running for, unfortunately a good proportion didn’t really train on from there.

I was just stating that even over the last couple of years Love Envoi & Tellmesomethinggirl had done plenty of running over 2m4f in the lead up to Cheltenham, Concertista too the year before. Personally I’d prefer to have a mare with plenty of stamina than a flashy bridle merchant speedster.

Good point. The mares races aren't ones I particularly spend much time on until closer to the time and I'm not sure I've ever had the winner antepost anyway. Take that as a good sign for Between Waters!

                  • If Inothewayurthinkin runs a big race in Lawlors then Lot of Joy second to him can be marked up several notches. Still think she could be 'the one'.

                    • I think other than Luccia, who we've only seen the once, the irish contenders form has been messy.
But Harmonya Maker and Magical Zoe have impressed me the most.
I think we might have a year when Mullins has no serious horse to go with and ends up running half a dozen again.

                      • Magical Zoe appeared to have a bit of ‘X’ factor about her. That gazelle like finish when Nikini was flat to the boards really leaves you wanting to see more. Could she do that up the Cheltenham hill…

                        • The valuable handicap in Dublin is a key race, along with the Solerina.
I suspect we've not seen some of these mares at 100%, especially the ones going for the handicap in Dublin.

Gordons got the best pack of Mares Novices, so far.

Harmonya, Halka, Liberty Beach all look more than decent.

Wonder how many he'll send to Cheltenham, and if any will solely be kept back got the Easter Grade 1 at Fairyhouse - ot they run in both.

He should send one if not two good enough to be competitive in March

As things stand Nikini would have a 9lb swing in the weights with magical zoe, liberty dance and saylavee from that down royal grade 3, if they were to meet in the mares novice. water to go under the bridge yet.

Ya Nikini can turn the result with magical Zoe I agree. Hopefully she goes to fairyhouse at the end of the month
