2023 Mares Novice Hurdle

some of these trainers are slow learners
stuck in their ways.
The allowance is a serious edge.
mares weren’t campaigned towards Cheltenham for a long time.
so the brought in the mares hurdle.
took them a while to run them against boys and even that was by default. But had great success.
they then introduced a mares novice race because horses like quevega Annie power BDD were just going for the mares.
now there’s a fucking mares chase the novice mares head towards that.
no need anymore for the mares races as surely the penny has dropped
mares can compete and when you have a good one the 7lb is of serious value.
F**k the mares.
Racing is run by idiots and most trainers have their heads up their arse.

If beating that Tolworth field gets them giddy about the Supreme, then good luck to them (shouldn't have the mares novice hurdle as an option anyway )

......but would need to win it by 17L and even then it'll be Metier vs Appreciate It levels of 'I don't care' about it



None of those horses in the Tolworth (I'm excluding Arctic Bresil as surely not running?) ... would be fav for the Mares Hurdle if they could run in it off level weights would they? I can't see anything that'd run better than Ashroe Diamond so far ..




I applaud the angle though, looking at the Without FV market in light of her being ante post fav for the Tolworth is clever



Just off on a slight tangent, how many Mares Novice Hurdle winners do we think would have won/placed in that years Supreme?

Only one at the time I reckon people would have been strong on was Laurina being potentially better than Summerville Boy in 2018?

Even if she's the best UK novice mare though, which winning the Tolworth would point towards, is that going to be good enough to win the Mares Hurdle, let alone the Supreme?

But don't you have Luccia for a very decent return if she wins the Mares Novice and nothing for an Ashroe Diamond win? Or have you been trying to get AD on board but just not been successful yet?

Yeah, Luccia's my best result and I haven't tried to back Ashroe Diamond because IMO she's always been a bit too short.

On what they've done so far, Luccia I don't think has put in a better run than Ashroe Diamond has....

I want to see Luccia sluice up, but even if she does..... I'd rate that about as good as what Ashroe Diamond could do...... the horses she's been beaten by, I would have as long odds on to beat Authorised Speed and the rest of the rabble in it.

In short though, I'd swap my Luccia bet for Ashroe Diamond as of right now..... I'll see if she wins the Tolworth and how well. Lots of moving parts, and can always re-assess, but right now, talk about Luccia being good enough for a Supreme, for me, is premature.

Ashroe diamond was beaten 9 lengths by Facile vega, Could quite easily have been more kev.
Authorised speed was beatend 11 lengths by facile vega, at cheltenham in a championship race.
I've made my opinion quite known on authorised speed, he won't be seen at his best until he is stepped up in trip, ideally in the ballymore please gary moore.
2 miles at sandown in soft ground will be just about a sufficient stamina test for him and if he cuts out the mistakes he will push luccia, but if she's what henderson thinks she could be then it's going to be a hell of a race.

I was trying to imply i think facile vega in a championship race would probably beat ashroe diamond more like 29 lengths, I don't think you was trying to knock anyone. But i do think you're underestimating Authorised speed.

She's already incredibly short in the Market as well at 14/1 so someone likes her !

Yes Ruby put her up at 100/1 that night and within an hour was 33s. I thought I was onto a good one then she never turned up

Between Waters has had four or five entries since xmas and has yet to take up any of them. Seems a bit strange they haven't found something suitable for her yet

Yeah, she had 3 this week and not one of them taken up. Entries would indicate she's ready though, I guess. Wonder if it will be one run and then the Mares Novice or are they waiting on a decision about Luccia with a view to holding her back for the season.

Or that they want to get her out, and want to check that she is fully ready before the decs and she just hasn't been yet, just like how Willie does it with his horses (like he mentioned about Vauban and Sir Gerhard this season).

The other issue though is that all of her entries are over 2.5 plus from what I've seen so that isn't great for looking at the MNH (and I've backed her for it). I wouldn't be surprised that Nicky see's her as more of a stayer and doesn't go to Cheltenham with her. She maybe more of one for chasing next season or the season after due to her P2P background
