  • ….looks to me like there was at least 4 runners last year who hadn’t previously won a bumper, so CDS must have a reasonable chance of getting in especially with Mullins likely to have so many entries.

Good point that, with Mullins likely to have half a dozen or more above him if CDS is showing enough to win the race he can pull others to ensure the Ricci horse gets in...

Which owner with a runner who has half a chance would step aside just for Ricci to have a dart at the race ?
I know i wouldn't and I'm sure plenty here wouldn't give up the chance of a G1 cheltenham runner to accommodate another owner.
One could pick up a "injury" if it came to it but I don't see owners paying training & entry fees being swayed just because it's Ricci & his horse is a shorter price than theirs.

It's Mullins who decides on race plans for his horses, not the owner.
Presumably he'll have a plan B for those that might get pulled, there are plenty of big Spring pots to aim at, Cheltenham won't be the be all and end all for his owners...

They have six bumpers per day at the Punchestown festival so lots of alternatives.

Think you're underplaying the owners part here.
Willie would try and manage the situation as best he can, but the owners will have their say.

Yes I’m sure the other owners would love to bend over backwards for the owner, he’s such a genuine kind and decent fella.

                • On a separate note, has there ever been a once raced maiden that’s won the Cheltenham champion bumper?
                  does it ever happen?

I'm amazed Mullins has found so many owners who say nothing about anything relating to their horses & just hand over fees to let Willie do whatever he wants as I've never met 1 like that,I should probably get out a bit more

Other than that though if one was going to be shuffled I imagine the mare would be the most likely, the owners have the current fav & Bromley is a measured individual who'd reason they'd have a favorites chance in the Aintree mares bumper with her to Munir & Souede, and as you say some might have other ideas.

With a maximum field of 24 though I'd be very surprised if we got 24 on the day so I don't think it'll be an issue as if CDS is up to it he'll be there, with Riccis blessing.

Salt of the earth old Ricci.

Nope on trends you basically need at least two runs and at least one win imo, ideally last time out.

On an earlier question....Getting balloted out should be no issues with refunds from bookies. Never has been.

Edit: I should clarify that 'nope'... The last 20 have all won a bumper I believe. Not going back further

I would expect CDS to run again prior to Cheltenham - probably Fairyhouse on Bobbyjo Chase day (25th?) - the race Ferny Hollow finally broke his duck before winning the bumper

This is what I'm waiting for.

                                Look forward to the entries.
