The weight to get in will be lower this year.
Because the qualifiers will be 33% less than usual.
Taking the ones out that don't turn up or aren't fit, it has to be a few pounds lower then normal.
So I think he might've been alright with UK tax.

It's the same with the winning a qualifier thing, That will likely be more than 25% of the runners this year.

Willie Wumpkins won the Pertempts 3 years in a row ,the last time as a 13 year old, but I don't think he won too many races in between. He also won the Ballymore as a 5yo. Legend.

I remember being there for the 3 Pertemps wins - one was run in an absolute bog, the sort of conditions you don't get at Cheltenham today because of the drainage system.

As you say Lobos.....Willie Wumpkins was a true Cheltenham legend.

On more current matters, I can see Maxxum getting something like a 25lb rise to 145 by the time the English capper has finished with him.

I gather from a number of people comments that the qualifying criteria has changes this year from finishing in the top 6 to instead finishing in the top 4. Please may someone confirm this and, if possible, let me know where and when this was announced? Thanks.

Pertemps has extended its sponsorship of the Pertemps Network Final at the Cheltenham Festival for a further three years, while there are changes to the qualification criteria.

I mentioned it at the time of the first Irish qualifier.
If anyone is building a team for the pertemps.
The qualifier shewearsitwell won had 2 interesting horses in 2nd and third, both still 33-1 and will have a handy weight turnaround with the mare if she runs in this.
And Barry Connell is clearly using the same feed as his old mate Mr Fenton.

Fair shout this. Captain Conby been declared over 2m 3f at Punchestown on NYE. Going to watch him there with a view to backing for this I think.

Expect 133 + Irish tax probably has him rated high enough to get in already.

Maxxum +18 to 138 in Ireland. Over to you, Mr BHA handicapper...

                        145-147 I’d predict.

                          That's 35lb for 2 wins.

No doubt there's a chunk of built in 'ease of victory' built into that 18lb again.

I expect Gordon to enter him into a Handicap Hurdle in GB.

Probably the Warwick Pertemps Qualifier in a couple of weeks time where he did a "dump" of entries last year for a lot of his Handicap Hurdles possibles
(then only ran Sire Du Berlais).

I wouldnt expect a whole whack more tax, from the BHA, given his win was at the bottom of the weights, from a 120 rating.

Unless the 2nd or 3rd (beaten 16 lengths and rated 137 and 138) win a Graded Handicap Hurdle in the meantime (theres a 3M one at the DRF in 5 weeks).

The 138 seems fair, he would have to meet the 2nd and 3rd (both now rated 139) on 16lb and 17lb worse terms.

BHA tend to tax Handicap hurdlers from Ireland around 4lb higher, with the odd one a bit higher still.

If the form of that Qualifier isn't boosted or knocked in the next couple of months then I'd think Maxxum would be given 142-145 (any more would seem extreme).

Gordon could look to take weight of him, by using an apprentice.

He also has Pertemps Qualified - Salvador Ziggy (BHA 147), and Eric Bloodaxe (HRI 139) who he may give a GB entry to at the same time.

Hopefully a smaller but much stronger Pertemps team than last season.

Captain Conby has run well enough there imo. Fair to say the winner got first run! And obviously the trip on the short side.

Just managed to access a friendly WH account with a view to backing Captain Conby but he is 14/1 (NRNB). Am sure I saw someone say he was 33/1. However, I've been drinking a fair bit over Xmas so it's entirely possible I imagined it...!
