….8-1 a smashing price for old forum favourite Remastered in the Aintree qualifier. If I remember rightly, just missed out in the weights for this years final.

There are only 14 listed Qualifiers on the BHA website (same as last year).

Only 2 on the HRI website up until Christmas in Ireland, same as last year.

The Pertemps sponsorship for a further 3 years, announced back in August says there are 20 qualifiers.

There used to be (maybe still are) Qualifiers in France.

I am not sure if these are the 4 missing ones or not.
If they are, and as usual the French don't travel for the Final, then there are only 16 qualifiers in total, and only 64 horses max who can qualify (c/w 96 last year).

Its not going to be a very deep field on Festival Thursday (c/w all the other 8 Festival handicaps).

Totally agree with you Saxon. I doubt most people will be aware of the changes and for me - as much as the golden rule is generally "don't bet antepost on handicaps" - I think there could be an opportunity to build a very nice book in advance for this renewal. If conditions change on the day, so be it, but given just how many of those qualifying have zero intention of running, it looks like the qualifiers will be well worth keeping a close eye on this season.

          Todays winner prefers right-handed courses.

Thats four of the 14 for GB now ran, not sure there's a British horse that stands out, even at their current handicap mark.

The two Irish look a bit above them from the Cheltenham Qualifier.

By a week-on-Sunday we will be 6 of 16 races in UK/IRE down, and I would expect to only be looking at a handful of the Irish trained horses that have qualified, that can actually look like potential winners.

No doubt the bookies know that too, and have them plenty short enough from now onwards, given we are guessing at handicap ratings in 4 months time, and well being in between..

…I know you didn’t ask me but it’s with PP/BFSB. I think they are the only two with Pertemps market.

Think today's 2nd and 3rd worth backing for this.
                            Hills 25's and 33's.
Both unexposed stayers who travel well.

Captain Conby was only 2 lengths behind Eric Bloodaxe in his last outing prior to today, so he's definitely one to keep an eye on for the main event come March. I can't back anything for that race this far out but he would be on my shortlist.
