He did put Sprinter and Altior in to open company during their novice chase Arkle winning seasons though didn't he... so there is some hope

      • Patrick in the RP tonight:

"Gaillard Du Mesnil seemed to confirm that he is just short of Grade 1 class and that he needs further. Is there a race at Cheltenham that isn’t a Grade 1 and over further? I was disappointed to see him beaten, really I was. Very disappointed indeed. Oh well."

Been hovering over this one for a week or so as he does seems to be one that is currently over priced , but with only 1 run and the owners having the favourite, is he a likely runner in the BANC?

Trainer has stated he is very unlikely to tun with just the 1 run under his belt, but he also mentioned Irish National I think so he needs to get running the horse.
He's probably not ready to run.

                • For those that like Banbridge I see he is 13/2 any race with sky but only 4/1 turners

Good spot mate. I had the same thought in the place market. Have been adding him to multiples "to place any race" at 6/5

Interesting view, failed to out battle him last season, with Jonbon on the back of a long season. Jonbon, will go from the front, taking a length a fence. Also a fair change of El Fab making a race ending mistake.

Jonbon, you can see totally loves attacking those fences, which I think is massive for a 2 mile Novice Chaser.

I really like Jonbon and think he’s the best jumper in the 2m devision.

Problem with going off from the front is a certain Dysart Dynamo. If he lights him up like the Supreme last year, he may run the finish out of him, which falls right into El Fabs hands.

What I’m hoping for is with Jonbon strengthening up etc etc as they do year on year is he’ll maybe have a bit extra to keep going at the finish, provided they don’t go a stupid gallop and he sits just off DD.

                        • The thing about 'good jumpers' is that all horses make a jumping mistake eventually and 'moderate jumpers' have more opportunity to learn to recover their mistakes whereas it can be curtains for a 'good jumper'. Think Un De Sceaux.

Different horses do it in different ways. The main aim is to negotiate the fence safely without losing momentum and that's what El Fabiolo has done in both his chases. It's most unlikely that Jonbon will gain a length at every fence although it's certainly feasible that it will happen at a few.

100% agree with this. Assuming good jumpers will jump well and indifferent jumpers badly is one of the most common over simplifications we can make as punters imo. Personally I look for good horses that have an upside in their jumping ....a horse with no upside can only maintain or decline.

I should say I’m not including the obviously woeful jumpers

I'm struggling to see why Banbridge is even relevant this year.

Has he got ANY form in the book that'd make him a G1 festival winner?
