Problem with going off from the front is a certain Dysart Dynamo. If he lights him up like the Supreme last year, he may run the finish out of him, which falls right into El Fabs hands.
What I’m hoping for is with Jonbon strengthening up etc etc as they do year on year is he’ll maybe have a bit extra to keep going at the finish, provided they don’t go a stupid gallop and he sits just off DD.Comment

The thing about 'good jumpers' is that all horses make a jumping mistake eventually and 'moderate jumpers' have more opportunity to learn to recover their mistakes whereas it can be curtains for a 'good jumper'. Think Un De Sceaux.
Different horses do it in different ways. The main aim is to negotiate the fence safely without losing momentum and that's what El Fabiolo has done in both his chases. It's most unlikely that Jonbon will gain a length at every fence although it's certainly feasible that it will happen at a few.Comment

100% agree with this. Assuming good jumpers will jump well and indifferent jumpers badly is one of the most common over simplifications we can make as punters imo. Personally I look for good horses that have an upside in their jumping ....a horse with no upside can only maintain or decline.Originally posted by archie View Post
