Agree. Faded in France over hurdles on his only attempt beyond 2 miles as well. He has been very easy to back in the Arkle for a while now though which is a little off putting.

    • El Fabiolo is the only one of the original Mullins Irish Arkle entries still in so it has to be a possibility. They may have taken a view from his chase debut that a slower pace would help his jumping. It would also be convenient for Mullins allowing him to potentially move JdB up to a weak BANC and put GdM in the NHC. If all that works, it's a good combination for them so I can imagine they might try it. The El Fabiolo (TNC) / JdB (BANC) related double feels worth covering in case.

Personally though I'd run him in the Kingmaker too. Great chance to test Jonbon and unnerve Henderson.

      • Is JDB not going to run in the DRF 2m 5f race himself? Doesn't make much sense for them to meet there either really. Don't see El Fab stepping up yet myself.

        • Yeah, can see El Fab running in arkle and JDB sticking to middle trip (I’d be keen on backing him and the turners after decs tomorrow)

One other strong possibility is that one (most likely El Fabiolo) could go to the Kingmaker instead to clash with Jonbon

            • I've bit the bullet and backed Appreciate It for the Arkle NRNB, even though a 9 year old ain't winning the Arkle charlie better late than never, I suppose!

It isn't out of the question that he's the Arkle favourite by 2.45pm Saturday!

              • Racing Post article suggests to me that JDB won't run (maybe go for Ten Up instead en route to RSA?), which would allow El Fab to go 2m5f race without any owner issues. We will find out soon enough anyway!

"We've been delighted with the pair of them. Both were very fresh for their first runs. El Fabiolo is entered in both Grade 1 novice chases this weekend and Willie will decide nearer the time which one he'll go for. James Du Berlais was a Grade 1 horse in France as a youngster and has always been highly thought of and put in an exciting performance on chase debut. He would prefer it if it was softer ground so a decision on his participation will be made later in the week."

Not sure how up to date that is mate, normally has jockey bookings for most but none are there.

Edit - some have popped up now

                          • The Irish Arkle could be a better race than the Cheltenham Arkle. Only Jonbon missing but you'd assume some of the beaten ones here won't go to Cheltenham or move up to the Turners

Yeah, the Arkle field will capitulate once that race has been run at the DRF unless it's a blanket finish.

He sent all of them there last year so who knows.
