      • Gordon did make it clear a few months back that he's making changes to the way he trains his horses, bringing them on much slower so that they last right through the spring. I just wouldn't be surprised if he's gone easy on a few and they might be a tad undercooked. CE not having a run since the Autumn might be further behind than they realise, there's no harm in running and getting beat today if that's the actual case for him blowing up.

          • Based on his run today I'm very glad as a backer that they ran CE. He needed it badly! Would have had no chance if he'd gone straight there on that form.

              Mr positive

One for the conspiracy theorists, he wants to run in the Grand National and wasn't happy with his UK mark so ran him today knowing he'd just come out of hibernation, and had not seen a fence since last November. He ran like it anyway.

              • Thoughts on the NH Chase after today:

Elliot: Does he believe CE can win the race? If so, presumably today was just a run out and he didn’t want to go directly there with such a long break. If it was to test CE then he has failed and possibly means Gerri C might need drafting in. I hope it was the former but I’m still bothered by why they let him go off as the 4/1 outsider in the three runner trial in October (if they thought he was that good).

Mullins: If today was any sort of trial then Ramillies must now worry them. The Devilscoachman would have beat him over a bit further. Probably good news for GDM backers.

Others: If Willie was satisfied with Ramillies and makes him his only dart and Gerri doesn’t come, then this looks wide open for something else. Mahlers Mission?

100% this and I'm not even saying will have a better Festival than last year, but there has been a subtle shift in his yard, and it's all about peaking at the right times - Christmas, DRF, Cheltenham, Fairyhouse at Easter, Aintree and Punchestown. He has the numbers in training to do so. If you could have any criticism with Gordon, this hasn't been the case up to now.

                  • It's alright saying Gordon's making changes, because all professionals self analyse and try and improve.

But they don't usually change stuff that has been working perfectly fine. Like how he prepares horses for the NH chase.

It would be silly to change a successful formula, so something else has made him run this horse today.

Was coming on to say this.

Some looking for any angle, to appease their minds, and I've got plenty on CE too, but ultimately it was a negative, IMO, that he should run CE today, and until it's proven otherwise that will be my view, because his previous results in the NH Chase prove that to date.

Gerri Colombe running in the nh chase possibly? If they think he’s much better than CE then they might think why bother running him in it, just get a third run into him and go for a handicap.

                        • It all depends on the horse, some don’t push themselves hard enough in their home work & need a proper race to strip fit. He had a break & then a run prior to his last win at Cheltenham. I wouldn’t be overly concerned with today bar his jumping!

….Rob Acheson has said he’d be against running GC in NHC, he’d much prefer the IGN prize money.

Yeah his UK mark is rubbish though, and I just mentioned the National which is also rubbish as he needs a few more runs to run in that

Has Gordon got a preference for grade 2’s over Grade 1’s?
