I think we can assume Classic Getaway is out for the foreseeable. Entries for the novice chases at the Festival are made next week and the fact that he's missed Christmas and the DRF would not fill me with much confidence.

    • JDB with an arkle entry would suggest BANC is not on the cards imo.

      • I've been told by 2 people now that Classic Getaway has had a setback, no idea on the source of where these came from but just worth noting and didn't want to be putting it in the Out of festival thread just incase its a load of bollocks.

The fact that he has had no recent entries probably tells the story though imo :/

Yep, great spot. Forums going to explode if he won the Irish Arkle

I’ll read very little into that, Mullins notorious for getting giddy with the entry button….

Exactly this. OP left out thats he's also entered in the 2m5f race. Just the 2m race and we have news. Multiple entries is not news.

                • Just for information I thought I's look at the Flogas runners for the past 5 year, but it is abit muddier than the Nathaniel Lacey

                  Since 2018 - 37 runners

                  Of them (Cheltenham Destination):

                  1 - Arkle
                  5 - Turners
                  11 - BANC
                  1 - NHC
                  2 - Plate

                  17 - Didn't go to Cheltenham

That's a 25% to the Turners & 55% BANC of those that ran at Cheltenham.

Of the 5 winners - 2 went to the Turners, 2 to the BANC and La Bague Au Roi not going to Cheltenham.

Doesn't help that much other than only one has ever gone to the NHC and he was PU in the Flogas. However he did then win the NHC (Rathvinden).

Also watch for Elliot horses down the field for the Plate

I know Mullins block books but I doubt he'd of entered a horse he is thinking about for the BANC in a 2m race. Just the way I see it anyway. Will see how it plays out.

I think it would be silly to read too much into it... but if he had JDB in his mind for his BANC horse, I doubt he'd be wasting money with 2 mile entries. Think you can gain a bit of confidence as a Turners backer but nothing to get too excited about IMO.

I feel like it probably is noteworthy, it would be the equivalent of gaillard du mesnil or capodanno having irish arkle entries last year, or monkfish being entered in it the year before, he does block book but I dont think he entered any of those horses in it, and similar to galopin des champs if he feels the horse has the speed to be a possible runner over 2m then he's probably not gonna be in any rush to run him over 3m as a novice.

He's been wasting entry fee money for years my friend, lots of it...

I remember Vroum Vroum Mag having 8 festival entries a week before racing...

                              • Jamie Codd in his ATR Festival Focus column:

"There’s a bit of water to go under the bridge until my plans are firmed up, but Chemical Energywould be a very, very good ride in the National Hunt Chase if he lines up. He won easily at Cheltenham in the autumn and will stay well. Stattler was a very high calibre of horse to run in the race last year, and clearly another horse as good as that would be tough to beat."

                                Also...

"Appreciate It was very good again at Naas on Sunday. I’d be happy to take on Jonbon with him in the Arkle. I think he’s a monster and he could be even better when he gets a lead in a strongly run race. He should get that at the Festival. He has the Cheltenham form and the back-class, and I know they think the absolute world of him at home."
