  • Galliard would certainly be a bigger price for the race if Gerri did turn up. Wouldn't look a shoe in for him at all.
I've only just covered Gerri in the BANC today........I'll have to do him for the NHC now !

Makes sense as if it's a dry/warm forecast then the ground will be at its softest on the Tuesday. I'd imagine he'd be entered for the BANC as well just in case it's forecasted to be a wet one !

        • May be worth doing GDM BANC and Gerri NHC double

Maybe they’ve cashed out all their 66/1 bets for a nice profit and have Gerri backed at big odds months ago

Unsurprising I think a few of us on here myself included had our suspicions that this may be the case. Sceptical of the stablemate what beat hims well-being also myself. Dare I say Mullins hopes for the staying novice Chase division are looking a little thin on the ground ?

Good news for JDB RSA backers , and the opposite for GDM NHC, maybe

I wouldn't really say it matters for GDM NHC backers, as Willie was always saying he saw Cocooner as a turners horse in the stable tours but I agree with the JDB part

                    • RSA is a real mess! Trying too think who to back as once the enemy catch on (why they so slow to react here?) They will cut everything!

Gentlemansgame & journey with me would be my 2 to go to war with at the current prices. The real whacker was good value for too long but the price has deffo been squeezed too much there now

                        • I don’t really buy the Gerri Colombe NHC chat despite Gordon mentioning it after Limerick, I feel he’s trying to temper expectations somewhat, he’s won a grade 1 over 2m3f so he’s no boat, Gordon has laid Chemical Energy out for the NHC & has stated as much, the ground situation is neither here nor there, my thinking is if it’s a dry spring by 5.30 on Tuesday whatever watering went on will be well dried off whereas the BANC is far earlier on the card on Wednesday.

The owners stated on a podcast earlier in the season they’d rather go to the Irish National than the NHC if he didn’t prove grade 1 standard. Gordon is known to like to spread around his best chances at the festival so Mighty Potter - Tuners, Gerri - BANC & Chemical Energy- NHC just seems to make sense!

Edit: forgot to add that Gordon said in the Irish Racing stable tour that he wouldn’t be against running him on decent ground at Leopardstown, Cheltenham & Punchestown which may be a hint that he’ll be going to the DRF next & won’t even qualify. Mighty Potter to Punchestown & Gerri to Leopardstown would fit in well time wise with their race plans.

                          • Half an hour later and 365 still haven’t greyed Minella Cocooner. He’s only been removed from WH and Sky so far. Looks like they’ve all logged off for the night

Very slow tonight. Wish they’d have been this slow with The Nice Guy

I agree with all this. I'm ignoring the NHC talk until he actually turns up for the race. He's plenty of boot, as you note he's won a G1 over 2m3f & a novice chase 2m5f that's not the sign of a boat, IMO.

He's literally been raced once over 3m too, excluding his p2p. I don't see why they'd suddenly go for a race over 3m6f for an unbeaten horse either.

I could understand Gordon playing him down as he's never had a winner of the BANC, and I imagine he feels he's got a great chance this season, without wanting to be too confident.
