    • All the races at Punchestown desperately slower than standard. Is the ground description correct?? Could it be quite holding with maybe the frost not entirely out of the ground??

        • Mullins re AI:

"I couldn't ask for any better. It was only two miles and we'll see how he comes out of it. We'll see if there is something between now and the Dublin Racing Festival.

"He's an Arkle type and we have others to come out over the next few days. I don't know if they are as good as him, but we'll give them the opportunity."

Sentence 1 - ooo maybe up in trip. Sentence 3 - or not.

He was referring to whether he may run again at xmas with the first comment.

In respect of the 2mile comment? Makes sense.

              • With AI unlikely to run again at Xmas and El Fabiolo running Wednesday, I think we'll see Sir Gerhard running at Leopardstown 2m 1f on Boxing Day as opposed to Limerick over 2m 3 1/2f.

Could Dysart be the one for the Leopardstown race maybe?

Possibly. He's not one on my radar though for the Fez.

                    • Difficult imo to assess AI in relation to the Arkle and beating Jonbon in particular.
Whist AI won a Supreme very easily, it was imo a poor renewal. Hes also had health issues.
Jonbon finished a well beaten horse in his Supreme but did come up against a horse that could be the best weve seen for some time, possibly ever.

They are chasing now though, different ball game.
Both have proved they can jump a fence well, and AI needs to be seen in better company to judge more fairly imo.
Jonbon i have already judged, i think hes destined for the very top.
AI might be as well, but hes not got time on his side.
Gut feeling right now is Jonbon will be the better chaser given his age and scope for improvement, and is the one most likely to win the Arkle, but i would not rule out AI, especially if he puts in an impressive display next time in a better race.
Of course its possible he steps up, but personally i hope he stays at 2m, stays sound, and we get a clash to look forward to.

                      • Looks very much like 3 or 4 of Willie's facing each other in both grade 1 novice chases at Dublin will be crucial, as is often the case, but maybe more so this year with the chasers,

The races you refer to are Grade 1's and Willie is very unlikely to run any horse on their first race over fences in a Grade 1. There is a 2m Beginners on 27th at Leopardstown and 2m5f Beginners Chase on 28th at Leopardstown. DD and/or SG are both more likely to be seen in one of those races than the Grade 1's IMO.

                          • Maybe OTF but most of the entries have never ran in a G1 chase so it's not as if they are at any disadvantage.

                            • Would be very surprised if Willie ran a horse in a grade 1 novice on there first start over fences

Wouldn't be his MO at all

                              • The most likely scenario would be Saint Roi to match up against Fil Dor again.
