Nice performance from Jonbon, you'd expect that
WIll want to re-watch that again, liked how he went on from the last, but.... again, not to get too excited, the field was weak today
Enjoying today's racing... feels like the season has just kicked off.
FV up next, tomorrows graded races tomorrow in ireland, bring it on
Think that was a bit more than nice myself.
Absolute natural over fences, and serious turn of foot.
I’m going to allow myself to get excited.
’Paul has elected to ride him. He has run very well at this track & has some good placed form despite not winning over fences. He has a very high rating but I’m just a little concerned about the trip for him, he possibly needs further but Paul is happy to stick with him.’
I'm not Jonbon's biggest fan but he looked decent today and has probably improved slightly compared to last time for me.
Boothill isn't the best chaser but he's a low 140s horse for me. Jonbon has beat him fairly handily and most importantly he has run through the line well. He was faster than Edwardstone from 3 out to the line but slower overall.
He needs to be about a 10 pounds better to be an average Arkle winner for me (I don't doubt he could be an average winner or slightly better) but Mullins best 2 milers still haven't been out. 7/4 for him to win the Arkle now is still an horrendous price. I have Banbridge rated higher and we will see tomorrow how he compares to Elliott's likely best novice chasers tomorrow (not including Saint Felicien).
I'm much more excited to see Il Est Francais at Kempton at Christmas. He looks a serious, serious horse.

I'm also not one of his biggest fans but that's been down to routinely overbet rather than thinking he wasn't a decent horse. Today is the first time he's put up a proper rating backed up by the clock on my ratings, purely on splits he'd of been a comfortable 2nd in the Tingle which is impressive enough making the running and plenty left etc. The 7/4 post race after that might be poor but it's no worse than the 2/1 pre race.
I thought Jonbon was every bit as good as Banbridge. The way he jumped and went through the line powerfully after setting a decent clip was impressive. Those two have set a decent bar. Let's see what Willie's boys are made of now.
His jumping is superb, he looks very nimble, he gets from A to B very quickly
Willie will need to have a good one to beat him
You can knock the price but you cant knock either of his runs.
I don't really see banbridge as a genuine top notch grade 1 horse yet. Tomorrow will reveal all on him, though even if say he wins narrowly from TSL or MP i could see that form being reversed come march once the elliot horses gain experience and gradually improve their jumping.

Thank you very much FF, you just saved me composing a reply.
You are spot on imo.
Although I should add that I think Banbridge is pretty useful, and could pose a real threat to Jonbon.
Of course he can't just say he's out to blow the cobwebs away, he's our number one for the National Hunt Chase - but it sure sounds like that.
As much as I'd like this to be the case and his others in today's race don't look quite up to the same level, it doesn't make much sense for Townend to ride him in this case. Any sort of decent run and I'd have thought another crack at the BANC may come into the conversation.

As for today. I'm considering a Banbridge and TSL BANC double. But I'm not sure how realistic TSL being beaten and then cut in the BANC market is. Any thoughts? A staying on place I'd expect to do it.
