Galliard du Mesnil could come into the picture especially after being mentioned for the Coral Gold Cup. Clearly he's highly rated amongst his Novice chasers and has heaps of experience which will be a big advantage in any of the Novice Chases.

He had an excellent novice hurdle campaign

But his jumping of a fence was average so he wasnt able to transfer that to being a grade 1 winner (or any kind of winner) over the larger obstacles

His official rating was only 150 over hurdles. That has a lot of other potential, more likely to improve, novice chasers, with a higher hurdle mark than him, so I'm not sure what the point about his hurdle mark you are making? Or did you mean his Chase mark?

I did mean his hurdle rating. Higher than Minella Cocooner, 3 pounds behind The Nice Guy. He's right up there with them.

Depends who turns up. Behind JDB, behind Appreciate It, behind Gelino Bello, behind Three Stripe Life, and even the ones just in behind him that's allowing them zero improvement for fences, when Gaillard himself is 6lbs better over fences than his hurdles rating.

He has a heap more improvement required, which I just don't see happening for a second season novice.
