Yeah. Quite a few people say it about their novices when they think they jump well.

I don't know why they say that tbh though as half the handicappers I back seem to jump like wardrobes

Jonbon is very much bred for the job so no surprise if he's a natural

      • It's an awful saying to be honest. Makes no sense. But is certainly meant as a compliment.

        • Mister Coffey float anyone's boat for the NHC? Still a Novice, Good course form, already qualified. Trained by Henderson though......

            Post Kim Muir second:

Mister Coffey has always wanted to do two things - one was to go three miles and the other was to go left-handed. He was as straight as a gun barrel today. He might finally be my Grand National horse. That was his first try at three miles and he has stayed all the way. He has run a great race. He stays and jumps, so he could well be my Aintree horse if Lady Bamford allows it. He is still a maiden over fences and if there is a good race over fences worth winning then we will go for it. But we might leave him as a novice and try win the National Hunt Chase next year

Had a nice bet on him too. He was very nearly taken out of the race early on which didn't help and jumped a few a bit iffy as well. He is one who I'll keep an eye on.

                  • Bet365 finally cutting Dysart Dynamo to 16's, still the stand out price, mind.

                    • Giving the positive mention in the stable tour and that he is back in Training after a small setback last season I am surprised James du Berlais is still as big as 25/1
Willie says he jumps well and this is what they bought him for and plenty of stamina in the pedigree
Have taken the 25s for the Turners and might cover for the Arkle
                      Could be anything over fences

Problem is he could run in any of the arkle, turners or brown advisory

He's 14s any race with hills

I've already taken the any race price, but I can't see him going to the Brown Advisory. Willie solely mentions the Arkle & Turners, JDB's breeding suggests the intermediate trip, as do his runs in France. To me, given the amount of horses Willie seems to have for the Arkle, it seems JDB is one of the more 'obvious' ones for the Turners. I can't see the double green running two in the Arkle, and Willie basically said this is where El Fabiolo is heading. So it would take a fair bit to happen to the likes of El Fabiolo & Dysart Dynamo, for JDB to go down that route, in my opinion, anyway.

                          • I'd have the Brown Advisory down as more likely than the Arkle I reckon. Just based on his likely ammunition for the shorter races. And the fact the horse has run over 3 miles as a hurdler.

Can certainly see the attraction with 'any race' with this one!
But Turner's would also be where I landed

Interesting also that muhtathir has a 22% Strike rate with chasers compared to an 11% Strike rate with his hurdlers

I thought it was interesting he emphasised 'plenty of stamina' twice. He also ran to an RPR of 158 over 3m on his second start having been thrown in the proverbial deep end on debut. In an average year that would have been good enough to win the race and he travelled into contention powerfully. I don't think he'd have any problem seeing out 3m over fences and Willie has loads of potential Turners candidates and fewer BANC horses. His The Nice Guy summary couldn't have filled backers with much confidence at all.
