Had two last year didn't he. And the year before (although technically none of course).
Regarding Chemical Energy, Elliot did say in his stable tour;
"...seems to be a horse who is best fresh and then trains off a bit as the season goes on."
So I guess the plan to now take a break and freshen him up before Cheltenham was always his intention. Although had a decent break before the Martin Pipe last year as well, and ran averagely.
As with any AP horse it's half the job done knowing it's target. Chemical Energy is now in that bracket and will be wrapped up in cotton wool now so the 10/1 now still looks decent value. He'll not be that for sure on the day which is his next race, especially with Gordon's exceptional record in the NHC. I wouldn't be too worried ground wise as there was plenty of cut yesterday (riding soft side of good) . The way he travelled and went through the line yesterday you'd have to say he excelled due to the big step up in distance and he could easily have gone round again.
Easy to say after the event but breeding would have him one of the more obvious Gordon NH Chase, however the fact he started the season off over 2m was a massive curveball and threw everyone off the scent (don't think anyone mentioned him for the race on here).
So just to clarify, he is by Well Chosen, a sire of the likes of Jury Duty and Carefully Selected, but also a sire of a previous Gordon Grand Annual winner, Chosen Mate. I guess this is where the start over 2m probably meant he went into a fair few handicap lists. His Dam is by Flemensfirth, sire of the likes of Imperial Commander, Tidal Bay and Lostintranslation. Either way, his breeding has him more favourable than say, Ash Tree Meadow, of the same yard.
I will be doing my utmost to get him onside from here on out.
12/1 (which I think has now gone) about Chemical Energy feels a bit short, then you tally up his plus points:
1. Clear target.
2. GE is 4/8 in the race (I'm giving him Galvin).
3. GE will secure top amateur.
4. CE handles Cheltenham.
5. Breeding suggests he'll enjoy further.
"He's already schooled and jumped like a handicapper."
Does he mean an experienced handicapper or a low grade one? Kind of begs more Q's than it answers, though he did stick him up as his one to follow, I believe. How original of him

I'm really hoping he meant Jonbon jumped like an experienced handicapper...
He's an utter idiot. Worse tipster out there. Makes it up as he goes along I think.
Me West Country Cousin. He put to up to follow so he wouldn't have put them up if he didn't think they had a chance. Im happy as got both in the book from yonks ago
Anyhows thought yous were a gashead
