Arkle - El Fabiolo, Dysart, Flame Bearer

Turners - Minella Cocooner, Kilcruit

BANC - Appreciate It (can see him going any of the three tbh but will avoid Kilcruit), James Du Berlais, (Potentially GDM if injuries happen)

NHC - GDM, Whatdeawant


I think Sir Gerhard could end up over hurdles at this rate, Willie says he's not performing well atm, and that might be poor jumping at home which is why he hasn't committed yet to where to send him chasing. Also if he is having doubts over Vauban in the CH this year so he may want to send SG there as well

Yeah as I said Appreciate It could go for any of the three races, and he also name checked the Arkle for El Fabiolo, Dysart and Flame Bearer. He won’t run all 4 in the race! He also said:

‘he'd have no issue going down the Arkle route, though he could be one for the Turners. It doesn't really matter to me whether he starts off at two miles or two and a half miles, we'll just wait for him and the right race to come along.’ - RP Stable Tour

So he could go any route atm.

With Dysart, Flame Bearer and El Fabiolo he’s only mentioned the Arkle and 2 miles

all on the HRI website for those interested
but sir gerhard entries are over 2 miles and at 2 and a half at limerick
no hurdle entries that I can see

Yep good news that. Confirmed by Richard Thompson on Nick Luck Podcast yesterday that Sir Gerhard goes chasing this season. I'd be surprised if he went straight in for the Grade 1 Novice Chase at 2m1f at Leopardstown or Grade 1 2m4f at Limerick over Xmas.

Looking through the fixtures, I can only see one 2m beginners chase and one 2.5mile beginners chase over Xmas that I think he'd be eligible to run in (I'm assuming he's not EBF eligible). El Fabiolo, Dysart Dynamo and possibly Appreciate It (if weather thwarts his declaration this weekend) could all run in those beginners chases too.

….I’ll be watching HdB Amirite closely on his next run. Won over 2m 5f on debut doing his best work at the end, then finished 4L behind Minella Crooner over 2m 6f at Punchestown despite nearly unseating at one stage and then pecking on landing 3 out.

Not much of a mention in the Stable tour regarding target/distance but he has an entry in the 3m Neville Chase, I think a top 4 will qualify him for NHC for which he’s currently 33-1 with 365.

One of them might debut in it I reckon as he might not have much choice.
I'd expect he'll leave one or 2 in it anyway and see how the race looks close to decs.
There hasn't really been anything scary over 2 miles from the other Irish trainers.
He has a good read on the race with Saint Roi.

He potentially has 5 grade 1 - 2 mile novice chasers on his hands and none have had a run yet.

I'd say it's unlikely - but Sir Gerhard and Appreciate it in particular might be considered.
Or he may just go based on the schooling and not the experience and class.
If Dysart or Fabiolo were to be put straight into this race then that would potentially be a statement. One way or another

I'm hoping (pocket talking) that El Fabiolo proves to be Willie's number 1 Arkle horse (Jonbon form adds weight to that) leaving Sir G for the Turner's. Have backed Sir G 'Any Race' but don't really want him to be taking on Jonbon.

Really looking forward to seeing Sir G run over fences. He's a top , too class animal.

Don't think he's being underestimated. Just think the uncertainty of him going chasing and his lack of entries put people off backing him earlier. If he wins on debut and impresses then I can see him going quite short for the Turner's.

Personally, I was never too worried about him not going chasing. I thought Chasing was the route Cheveley Park would follow given his age and their outlook. I’ve backed him for the Turners but my biggest concern is Willie sending him to the Arkle. I think the choice of race will ultimately come down to how quick he is at his fences and what happens to the other horses in the yard approaching the festival. Oh how I wished I had a crystal ball.

Was there ever really any uncertainty though? Always well odds on to be going chasing imo.. and the lack of entries doesn't concern me either, he was given the G1 entries at Xmas and last season he didn't start out until Boxing Day so maybe he just needs the extra few weeks to get ready.
