Was it a poor BANC last year when he was under 5 lengths behind the current Gold Cup second fav?

The counter to that would be that he also got beat by ahoy senor despite that one taking half the fences with him

Just dont know whether i could bring myself to back a horse that is 0 from 6 over fences for a race like the BANC

Will he not just find one or two too good again if pitched in at that level

Maybe he will but for me he sets the standard right now

          He does

But none of the other candidates have had a chance to prove how good they are this far out

          Some havent even run yet

          • How we marking up today's race? I want to say GDM probably ran to form as did Banbridge (can't be certain mind you). Would we consider Mighty Potters performance a 160p today? Its a real shame about Davy Russell being launched into space as TSL running a race would have given the form a more concrete look.

Fair comment. It's interesting that he finished so close as I never at one point thought he was going to win. Maybe he just plods on towards the end of the race without having the class to get involved?

Gdm ran very well, but have to be unlikely it was to his rating as that is based on form over further

And banbridge likely didn't run to his best or that's just how good he is

                • Just re-watched the Drinmore form today as didn't get a chance to fully watch it earlier.

I don't think TSL needs to go up in trip because of one race ending mistake. Davy was lucky to stay on and lost his irons so can see why he was PU.

Much improved from Mighty Potter, done it well but ultimately beat a potential NH Chase horse by just over 3 lengths. Genuinely think TSL would have won it by further had he not been PU.

I think we saw the real level of Banbridge today (I'm sure plenty will disagree, as he seemed to be becoming a bit of a forum favourite) but I think he's likely handicap level (I know he won a Grade 2 in England), as I had said previously. The British he beat the last day were not exactly great and I think that probably showed today, really. The lack of depth in Britain is overwhelmingly obvious too. Just good placement by JOB, IMO.

Regarding Gaillard Du Mesnil, he ran well in a beginners chase on debut last season, just behind Capodanno, he ended the season over 3m5f so I wouldn't be worried about him heading to the BANC just yet.

                  • My main opposition to GDM tbh would be that over fences he seems allergic to winning. 100% place rate, 0% win rate is pretty astonishing

                    • Watched Mighty Potter back again. Hugely impressed. Massive Turner's player. Just have it in the back of my head that Sir G could be the one to upset him though. He's a huge Festival horse.

was just coming on her to say the exact same regarding mighty potter, jumping immaculate bar one were he pecked but corrected himself well. This was a very competitive drinmore and imo he put out a big statement today, going to be tough bet if he turns up to Cheltenham at 100% fitness

                        • Agree, best Drinmore that I can remember. Winner was brilliant. Second is top class and won't be going anyway near a NHC after that. Beat the rest out of sight. Willie will have plenty others for Patrick to ride. Paul won't be getting off GDM in a hurry.

Pretty much how I see it to

Willie probably had a wry smile seeing GDM get that close knowing he has a fair few horses in the stable that would beat him easily for speed over 2m4f

Weve seen only a small fraction of his novice chasers to go to war with

The coming weeks will tell us more

the drinmore doesnt provide many actual festival novice chase winners, the last according to saxons race planning diary was rathvinden, who finished 2nd and then won the NHC

                            cough GDM cough

Does throw up plenty of placed horses though.

Those on mighty potter at nice prices will be delighted though and have a nice bet

Wouldn't be taking his current price myself, plenty of horses to come out yet.
