Admittedly, he might know a thing or two more than me about horses ... but this just seems odd. I did wonder though if Robcour have had an input and decided that GMG and GC are for the longer trip and that they'd prefer JWM and Saint Felicien to aim at the Turners? Not sure.
This is how I see it - specifically GMG being the one for the RSA if he recovers from his setback ok, based on what Acheson junior said in that podcast.

I’m not so sure it’s that to be honest, they are all with different trainers (those we expect to want further).
Yes you would want to split then if it came to it but end of the day you run them in the race most suited.
Yet another winner came out of the Martin Pipe today with The Goffer at Thurles. That must be at least 10 out of the race. Banbridge form looks red hot.
Minella Cocooner at 18/1 for the Turners is surely too big, the last two winners of the race he's running in tomorrow were Bob Olinger and Energumene, the latter went back to two miles. The point of this comment is Willie likes to start his nice chasers here.
Stable tour says 2m4f is his trip and I think he could be in the Allaho mould as a galloping stayer.
Now playing devils advocate the market looks really hot this year with Sir Gerhard, Appreciate It and Kilcruit before we mention the opposition stables.
And he's up against Journey With Me tomorrow, so there is a chance he could get turned over and the price drift further or he goes to the BANC to which he is currently favourite.
with The Nice Guy being out for the season he would be the obvious replacement, but Willie mentioned James Du Berlais as his potential top stayer.
I think Minella Cocooner is consistent and as long as he makes the races into staying contests, he'll be a star in the division.
*And whilst writing this I missed the 18s and its now 14s with bet365*
Agree again JS. The way he runs he looks the ideal horse for the Turner's. Don't think he'd stay 3 miles the punishing way he travels. Mullins is not adverse to running a few in the race so don't worry about him being split. Tomorrow is a good starting point. I think he'll jump/run them ragged. His price is likely to completely collapse following an impressive win.

If he were nailed on to go Turners then I'd agree, but he's not (appreciate Willies can rarely ever be classed as 'nailed on', but you catch my drift).
You're right that Willie likes to start his nice chasers here, but it's a race that historically points to future 3 milers, not those over shorter or intermediate trips. Don Poli won this for Willie before winning an RSA. Bellshill won this then came third in an RSA. Roi Des Francs came 2nd in this and then ended up in the RSA. Willie's Laurina obviously ended up in the Mares race but Minella Indo chased her home and was bloody unlucky not to win an RSA. All far more indicative of 3m.
Yes, the stable tour says 2m4f is his trip, but as you point out the market has him firm favourite for the BANC - he's not in the top 10 for the Turners. Of course, the market doesn't always get it right and he could very well be BANC favourite by default as its still relatively early in the season and TNG has come out, but it's impossible
to ignore why he's there.
Minella Cocooner is a big unit by super sire Flemensfirth who produces loads of top quality staying chasers. Last season he jumped hurdles like a chaser, but completely devoured 3m. He won a Grade 1 over 2m6f and second twice in Grade 1's running to RPR's of 154 in defeat (which was actually much better than Allaho).
The issue is how he races. Will he mature for fence and settle, or, will be remain the headstrong free going sort that sees Willie keep him over intermediate trips. The former will think Turners, the latter, BANC. I suppose my issue with backing him for the Turners in the wake of the above, is if he settles and shows a more mature attitude then Turners bets could very well be dead in the water.
We agree that he's a potential future star and that James Du Berlais is definitely the forgotten horse over 3m.
As I've said elsewhere, I'd happily take second to JWM today if the race turns into a sprint, my main objective today is to see him settle and race within himself.
”Paul has elected to ride him which probably means a great deal. He’s a very sharp jumper who will love the ground & as long as he jumps well will hopefully take a bit of beating.”

I thought many including the trainer himself remarked on how much more lightly framed Minella cocooner was than TNG. Are you absolutely sure he is a big unit? I tend to rely on my memory and so I’m now thinking it’s starting to fail me. It’s not a huge deal obviously but I did have it down as a tiny ? around scope.
Cocooner should beat them today
just the jumping we can’t be sure about
think Henry is wrong about jwm but he’s seen him jump and that might quicken him up I suppose
but hopefully they both run and we’ll learn summat

You've got it the wrong way round. He said TNG was lighter and more of a hurdler whilst MC was a big chasing unit. Watch the replay of his last two runs and you'll see that MC dwarfs TNG.
Thanks Charlie...old father time is catching up on me I reckon ...that’s cost me tbh coz I would have made an investment before all the interest started kicking in but told myself to wait . Looks like note taking is looming large...
