Mick Fitzgerald says: "Warwick is very much a speed track and, largely due to that reason, I rate it one of the toughest in Britain for a novice."
So just my fitness levels then...

      It would appear so, sorry

Tbf, the steep climb after the winning line is probably something to take out of it, so yeah there is a steep climb during the race but not when it matters, at the finish, it's after that, but I'd still say the majority of the course the emphasis is on speed.

I've been trying to make a case for Banbridge all season but he's not a horse I can warm to for an Arkle (which I assume is where your 25/1 comes from ?).
He relished the hill last year over 2m 4f on the New Course, powered away, if he were to have the speed to win an Arkle he would have to be be some horse, I mean a Desert Orchid type we haven't seen for generations...

The steep climb is way after the finishing line round the bend where's there's quite a decent hill

But the rest of the track where all the jumping happens is flat

Have you not watched his Arkle trial win then ? Agree he's not quite up to Dessie standard yet..

EW would be the call at 25's.

Remember it well, but it wasn't a great race.
These G2 small field early season trials flatter to deceive IMO, for me what was more telling of his ability was how he powered away in the M Pipe, hence my thinking that if he has the speed to come back to 2m and win an Arkle on the Old Course then he will be a horse for the ages....

Think he'll need the ground to be soft on the opening day to run in the Arkle. Possible though. The race will cut right up as well.

161 for jonbon and 149 for calico.

Big Dan will hope you’ve not got a line into the BHA if his lad goes up 13lbs. You’ll be pleasantly surprised tomorrow then I reckon.

This was one of the key focus areas for the handicapping team at BHA HQ.
Trainers were complaining when their inferior horses went into graded races they became poorly handicapped because the superior horse didn’t come out of second gear and their horses were unfortunate enough to finish within 10l, if they put Calico up to 149 then they’ve made a mockery of the system and can expect graded races of 2 or 3 runner affairs for good, and who knows maybe the odd walkover.
I’ll be keeping an eye out for this one tomorrow…
