That really was a monster performance from EF. Lift him out the race and the main protagonists are fighting out the finish, and he's beaten them by 10L. Thats an RPR in the 170's performance and he's achieved that still making mistakes (4th last). I hated seeing Appreciate It beaten but loved what EF did. Brilliant seeing DD showed up too, that was needed.
Today will be fascinating with a view to the Turners. The race now looks a more likely destination for Appreciate It and David Mullins said he'd be shocked if Sir Gerhard ended up anywhere else. I never rated Mighty Potter over hurdles and was heavily critical on debut, but that performance last time out was absolute mustard IMO. Pure class. I think he'll be very hard to beat today and both Willies runners will be racing today with a view to going up the BANC.
Loved what Gerri did yesterday. He's been in the book for a while now and the BANC is looking prime for him. Yesterday was not ideal. The ground could have been softer and the trip could have been longer, but he ground it out. He was clever as his fences, jumped beautifully and I'll be nervously waiting over the next few days to make sure he's come out of his race well.Last edited by charlie; 5 February 2023, 08:03 AM.

But I was just feeling a bit of sympathy for DJ….. I’m a sentimental old chap at times.
Personally think it would serve PT right if the owners took the approach……. You didn’t want him yesterday, so fuck you at Cheltenham.
But they won’t , trainer will decide.

Supreme winner Appreciate It, written off?!
Embarassing. Love you both obv.... but entertain me
If he did that performance and then went nov chasing following season, then yes definitely understand it, but that’s not the case here.
He had problems and then ran in a poor (imo)CHurdle.
Did ad well as could be expected in that I think.
Then this season he’s looked ok in his two pretty much school rounds, and then found wanting when facing the best in Ireland.
So imo, he’s not a horse that can be judged on how he is as a horse now, on what he did in the Supreme.

& El Fabiolo will beat Jonbon in March, I’m sure if it…
They have raced against each other once, over hurdles at the end of the season.
No collateral form over fences to go on. Unless I’ve missed something?
If I had to pick one now I would go for Jonbon, just because I think he’s more straightforward in his travelling during a race and I’ve been slightly more impressed with his jumping thus far, but I do acknowledge that EF has now gone deeper.
Its a fascinating race and to me it’s simply a case of looking forward to it and hope that any gut feeling proves correct.

willie throwing JDB in the CH suggests he rates him and first performance this year to my untrained eye looked a more natural jumper vs. Mighty Potter who has jumped well but thrown in the odd mistake (granted this expected for novices)

Made me laugh reading through all the posts last night this morning. Kevloaf really has a soft spot for AI!
I got the impression that Danny Mullins in an interview yesterday thought that he had gone too quick on DD in the first mile so I wouldn't give up on him for the Arkle, especially as it is over a slightly shorter trip. ElFab was impressive though wasn't he? Still not looking mustard with his jumping but he has got a serious engine. I would really love a Jonbon win but it's now very hard to call imo.
I really would love to see Mighty Potter put in a stand out performance today and I think he can. He's got the beating of GDM who Townend has chosen to ride over JDB which is surprising unless there's another reason I'm not aware of? Still think JDB could be anything so really looking forward to this race.

It isn't much of a negative anyway considering Paul has already shown during the weekend he doesn't get it right all the time.
