I like to think I know Willie quite well since he sent me a birthday card the other year.
And I sensed from his comments after Sir Gerhard that he was a little disappointed.
It almost came across as though he was slotting him in somewhere in his head, when asked about Cheltenham.
And whichever way you look at it Sir G wasn't and isn't the Boss of his own destiny right now.
Had he zipped around Gowran then I think Willie may have spoken very differently.
Not Sir g's fault as I'm sure having more than one run would have helped everyone.
And he can still obviously put up a big performance if he runs in whichever race he does turn up in, and would be a danger to all.
But it wasn't the Willie we've seen after other debuts from his multiple Cheltenham and grade 1 winners - like Monkfish or Galopin de Champs for example.
Sir Gerhard didn't take any eyes out today, it was all a bit Meh !

As soon as he asked him to quicken up and go by Largy he did look so much better and over that last 4f put in the performance we were hoping for. I bet he wished he'd been more forceful on him from the start and not treated it like a schooling exercise.I could go with that, the jockey is in control and could have easily been more progressive on him like at Leopardstown last season and to a certain extent at Cheltenham.
It would have tested him more whereas I don't think they learned as much as they could have done. Just looked a bit stuffy most of the way.

All depends on what “well represented” means to Mullins
