In the fullness of time yes, but in 2015 pre festival UDS was ahead of Vautour in the Arkle pecking order wasn't he? Grade 1 winner of the Arkle trial having posted an RPR of 171 vs Vautour who had won a Grade 2 over 2m3f. I cant remember that far back but Vaurtour JLT was no surprise was it?
Imagine AI v DD v EF in the G1 Arkle trial? It's not inconceivable. I really like El Fabiolo too but I wonder if they'll give him an easier jumping assignment? Going to be fascinating to see how it all plays out.
I seem to recall it being that there was just no way Un De Sceaux would settle to go any further, a proper two miler... and Vautour had the class and could step up in trip.... Vautour won the Supreme and Faugheen the Ballymore and there was a quote from Willie that Vautour was the better horse.... it always stuck with me (for all that I can't recall it exactly) ...
I do agree, if they went for the Arkle trial, whoever won would go to the Arkle
Appreciate It entered in the 2m Novice Chase at Naas on Sunday.
Hmmmmm...
I like that. Regardless of target. Trying to get 3 runs in before the festival. Not sure what they'll learn against similar opposition, but more fitness.

Happy with that. Probably more public schooling so I'll doubt we'll learn a huge deal, but WPM is persisting with 2m and he'll have more than enough time to recover and race at the DRF in the Grade 1.

I'm hoping he wins and freshens up for Cheltenham now... although he took in the DRF easily enough in his Supreme year.... so wishful thinking on my part maybe.

Blue Lord took in both last year didn't he too
I think I'd prefer him to run in both as he takes his racing well. 3 runs then 2nd in a bumper. 3 runs then 1st in a Supreme. If he pisses up on Sunday and doesn't go to the DRF after presumably an easy race then the rumour mil will enter merciless overdrive won't it. I suppose a win and then him saying Arkle after a break would be ok, leave DD and EF to fight it out in the Grade 1. Willie must be loving life at the moment

I suppose it's because I am playing scared and don't want him beaten along the way.... my space hopper balls must be deflated
What influence do you think Townsend will have on the targets, ruby has stated in the past that he would always try to argue/persuade to split the horses to give him the best chance of winning each race rather than have 2 good chances in one race, does this include all horses or do you think some owners will maybe try to say where they would like their horses run or would Willie and Townsend decide. I have seen that if el Fabio goes up in trip if he is not the best at 2miles it means then JDB may go 3miles as it would split the owners horses up but would this be the case or would it just be case a of which horse Willie and Townsend think is best at the trip and which trip gives them the best chance of winning
As an aside, my model may be able to pick up on strong going/distance preferences (e.g. via Millenary, who is a sire that loves heavy ground better than near enough anyone else). If you'd backed all his progeny on soft or worse at distances up to 2m5f blind, you'd be 49 winners from 364 bets, SP profit +60pts, BFSP profit +300pts! (He's had a 16/1 winner and a 10/1 place from 7 runners so far this year, both of which were before I knew about this obviously!)
Three of his progeny entered this weekend in novice/maiden hurdles:
Anyone on El Fabiolo for the Arkle might want to keep an eye on the entries for the 2m4 Killiney Novice Chase next weekend at Punchestown. It's the only option for him in Ireland before the DRF now that he's missing the 2m race this weekend.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's where we see Minella Cocooner
Thanks - will keep an eye, not generally a fan of low grade novice/maiden hurdles but if the ground is as well as it appears it could be up north...
EDIT: bolt man could be interesting now he's got his handicap mark. Wouldn't want a major step up in trip though so I'd be wary of that. If anything, going back down to 2m may suit him better according to the model - will check him out properly when he gets an entry
