  • Tahmuras reminds me of Noland who was also a big baby who improved with every race. He won the Tolworth in similar fashion before winning the Supreme. He took in a listed race in February at Exeter before Cheltenham. Be interesting if that race still exists if Tahmuras does the same.
Funny enough, both of them won the same Bumper race at Wincanton.

Yeah forgot about him. Appreciate he had a season off, but he didn’t really hit the line like I expected him too. Maybe that will come.

Don’t fancy IEP for the AB myself. His turn of foot is his weapon.

      • Tahmuras

Nicholls said..."He travelled so well there," said the trainer, who recorded a hat-trick in the Sandown Grade 1 between 2006 and 2008. "We can sharpen his jumping and he's all but certain to run in the Supreme. It's the type of race, if the ground goes soft, that should suit him.
"I could see he was going to win when they turned in, but then he did nothing in front. He's green but he's talented. He'll be entered in the Supreme and Ballymore, but I wouldn't be keen for him to take on Hermes Allen. It would be pointless for them to take each other on.

"We were hoping he'd improved from his first two runs over hurdles. I watched them again last night as I'd read comments that said he wasn't good enough and I perhaps thought I'd got it wrong, but I watched his Chepstow run back and it was a good performance.

"He's very much in the model of Al Ferof and Noland, who won the Supreme for us in 2006 and 2011. They weren't really speedy two-milers, but they managed to win at the festival because they stayed."

On whether Tahmuras can become the fourth winner of the race in eight years to follow up two months later, Cobden said: "I would be disappointed if he didn't finish in the first four in a Supreme. He's clearly one of the best two-mile novice hurdlers in this country, but it's whether he's good enough to beat the Irish ones who come over.

"He travelled a little bit behind the bridle to begin with but had loads left. I was amazed when I saw a couple of the fancied ones come off the bridle so soon as he was cantering all over them. As soon as he got to the front he idled a fair bit, but the ground was pretty testing.

"His mistake [two out] probably helped because I didn't get there ten minutes too soon – it was only five.

"He's a lovely horse who will keep progressing. We'll definitely see him at his best when he steps up in trip. He's only winning over two miles because he's so good."

The winner's enclosure was filled with members from the Noel Fehily syndicate, which also struck earlier on the card with Love Envoi. The former jockey compared Tahmuras to Summerville Boy, on whom he won the Tolworth in 2018 before following up in the Supreme.

"He's quite similar to Summerville Boy," said Fehily. "He stayed a lot further than two miles, but this lad jumps a lot better than him and is a stayer with a bit of quality. He can travel further than two miles, which is impressive, and he just seems to get better with every run.

"I think we have a fairly serious horse on our hands. I was a little bit worried because the ground looked really chewed up and you never know how a young horse will handle it, but he was the last off the bridle and I loved the way he turned into the straight. Harry rode him with so much confidence and he looks like he's getting quicker."

He was cruising all over them before 2nd last, had he jumped that and the last as he had the other hurdles, I think he would be getting a lot more credit.

Hes a big player and he won’t be stopping up the hill

Agree. If Arctic Bresil or Authorised Speed had won the race with the same authority this forum would go into meltdown.

            • I don't think he won with great authority, he idled around and ran as straight as a drunk at 3am.

Well he’s one that very few have mentioned, so probably not many on him.
End of the day, he’s travelled well, jumped well till two out, and ran a bit green when in front probably too soon, but when corrected after idling he found plenty.
All in all, I’m well happy to have him onside.

                  I liked his debut.

Slow pace and he out speeded Doctor Bravo comprehensively and the others were miles behind.

Doctor Bravo won a slow bumper very well. He had to come from the back of the field, move out wide, was very green and picked them all up, going away at the line. He showed bags of speed and Dark Raven has done him in a foot race.

There was some nice sorts in that bumper and I really rate Doctor Bravo - I can see him winning similar races Flame Bearer won last season.

I'd like Dark Raven to take in another 2m race before stepping up at Cheltenham.

His staying horses for the season (as per the stable tour) have all disappointed; Embassy Gardens, Seabank Bistro, Madmansgame, Lisnagar Fortune, Shanbally Kid. I did wonder whether Spanish Harlem might step up? Indiana Dream looked good on debut. Can't see any other potential superstars (although he was no better off at this point last season).
I wouldn’t rule out hunters Yarn going there

his sire produced last years winner

Convincing win tomorrow and it’s a real possibility

Although Willie ran the nice guy over 2mile 3furlongs at Naas and skipped the DRF

You could be right but I'm hoping he is Mullins County or Pipe horse so not sure I want him trying that hard at the DRF !

Really want to take him on tomorrow, having a look now but proving a task in itself

                          • Inothewayurthinkin has scope to improve here... win tomorrow, plus the same and win the ballymore
have to love his attitude, only two starts and the horse just wants to win, step up in trip will suit

Not easy to second guess Willie

we might know more after tomorrow

He ticks a few boxes for the Bartlett, especially been a 6 year old with lots of experience

50s might tempt me into 1/2 a point
