It is a very questionable mark, especially as Stay Away Fay has been given a higher RPR.

He hasn't been asked a question really and was faster from the 2nd hurdle in his race than all the other hurdle races from the same point (Stay Away Fay over 2m4 and Champ over 3m and Abuffalosolider over 3m and they were all out to win their races). Champ was faster from the 1st hurdle in JPs race but they dawdled early on.

You would expect a decent 2 mile novice hurdler to be able to do this but Jonbon didn't last year when winning similarly easy.

    • American Mike out tomorrow against a reasonable field.

Three Card Brag's form stacks up quite well. Imagine finished 2nd today in a race where they've gone 20ish lengths faster than Kalanisi Star over the final circuit (big positive for Spanish Harlem that he could go with the front 2 for so long, who look out and out 2 milers, if Mullins is right that he needs further).

Affordale Fury beat Monbeg Park, who has subsequently beat the 3rd in Mike's maiden a similar distance.

A good win will set the standard over the mid trip in Ireland.

I feel the same, will be informative race for Mike for sure.

Promising start, he’s a hardy sort.
Think he's got too much speed for the spud race, personally.

6 seconds quicker than the Inothewayurthinkin/Imagine race today carrying the same weight and then 2 seconds quicker than the 0-120 novices handicap, but carrying 19lbs more than the winner.

That just means his race today was ran at a better end to end gallop than the other two races, it’s not indicative that he has loads of speed.

It’s early days but he hasn’t shown me much of a turn of foot so far. He just went to the front & ground out results impressively in testing conditions

In fairness, Constitution Hill aside, not many horses quicken away in heavy ground. That said, I thought he quickened well enough in his bumper, again on heavy though, to suggest that he has a turn of foot.

Will look forward to seeing him on better ground tbh.

Most of that was in the first few furlongs when the other race dawdled.
The other race was miles quicker over the final circuit - 20+ lengths by my reckoning and most of that was over the final 3 hurdles. Would be interesting to see if KS could keep up that pace with the other race.

Trainer said he will go up in trip next at possibly Leopardstown so hopefully it's 2 and a half miles against a better field.

Yeah, he also said soft ground is preferable!

Edit: I don’t really see a suitable race at Leopardstown, is there a winners of one novice hurdle over 2m4f? I don’t think there is.

Just looked and there isn't. Maybe it will be the grade 1 2 mile race then

He’ll be taken off his feet over 2m on better ground at Leopardstown.

Can’t remember off the top of my head
Think there could be a race at Limerick over Christmas that might suit
Certainly more likely to get the soft ground there

There's an open 2m4 hurdle race then the 2m7 novice graded hurdle that Eric Bloodaxe won last year.

Usually very soft/heavy at Limerick so could suit.

Yeah there’s a grade two there over 2m (Galopin Des Champs flopped in incidentally)

The 2m4f hurdle Daly Tiger won last year could be an option at Limerick too, plenty of novices have ran in that over the years!

                            • Looking forward to seeing how Grangeclare West gets on today

Long absence to overcome and probably going to make up into a future chaser

Have taken a chance on him turning up in the Bartlett
