        • Looks a Cross Country horse to me....

sorry, had to throw that one in there as this horse appears to be splitting everyone's opinion - supreme, ballymore, stayer, turn of foot, chaser next year...

For me, he's a Supreme horse. Jumps too slick to be discounted for the supreme, even if FV is in that race. He's 5, and has scope for improvement. A Mullins French type - he'll be mentioned a lot more for the supreme if he was carrying the Ricci colours

Mullins will have at least 2 horses for the Ballymore, that aren't good enough (maybe Dark Raven), have the pace or don't jump well enough (G-Warrior) to run in the Supreme.

          • Gut feel is that today was about understanding the options of how he could be ridden in the Ballymore. They know he has the stamina given his win over 19f, so they wanted to see whether he had a turn of foot if the race was run that way. The key for me is that FV has only ever gone over 2m. That isn’t to say he couldn’t go over further, but with solid Ballymore options, why do it? I know this is Mullins but for me, FV Supreme, Impaire Ballymore. Obviously my view only!

            • Paul Townend on Impaire Et Passe @punchestownrace: “I was very happy with him there, he jumped like a buck & only hurdle he was slow at was the last when he was in front but he picked up nicely at the back of it again. The worry was coming back in trip but he showed pace today.”

              • Wasn't overly wowed by him there but he's certainly useful. Agreed that he looks a chaser.

If I was going to guess, I'd say it's Supreme for IEP. Him and Dark Raven are going to be split I'd assume, Willie has always said Dark Raven is more of a staying type, I think there's a good chance DR gets beat at the DRF then upped in trip, leaving IEP for the Supreme as he hasn't been beaten over 2 miles. That makes sense I think...

Not sure that performance was a good enough performance to have any impact on Facile Vega though.

If you went strictly by ratings, iep just beat a 131 horse by 6.5l giving her 7lbs, facile Vega beat a 137 horse last time out by 4l off level weights, so you could make the argument that iep actually comes out ahead.

I don't think theres much of an argument who is the number one in Willies head though...

Yeah, said the same a while back. He's by Diamond Boy so that would also be a pointer as well. He's going to be a serious chaser I feel.

I doubt I'll back him for this Cheltenham but he's one on the shortlist for next year. Shame I can't get on with WH or Sky as he will end up being a bingo horse again next year and might depend on where FV goes, if State Man stats hurdling or goes novice chasing etc.

When it comes to which race iep runs in that’s definitely an important factor, but when it comes to who’s actually the better horse I’m not sure that matters much.

                          • What are the stats re Willies Moscow Flyer winners and where they end up at the Fez ? Is there a huge bias towards the Supreme or is it mixed?

                              His winner went to Supreme.

I also had a quick look at where Mullins sent his French Bumpers (IEP) based on their initial runs for him... just to see if there was anything else to work off

Mullins has had four French National 5 years olds over the last 10 years - from what I can see. Those that were lightly raced went to the supreme, the other that were more exposed went into the ballymore as 2nd or 3rd choice

Alvisio Ville - Won first race at Leop, RPR 138. Ran in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle, finished 3rd to Nichols Canyon. Went Supreme. Well beaten
Crack Mome - Won first race, RPR 133. Finished second to Any Second Now in Moscow Flyer. Went Supreme. Well Beaten

Easy Game - Ran multiple times as a 4 year old for Wille, majority over middle trip, before getting well beaten on the Ballymore.
Haxo - rubbish. Ran a few things over bumpers in france, well beaten in the Ballymore
Just throwing this in there... whether it helps to proves something later down the line, dont know... lol

                                Moscow Winners

                                - Ganapathi, second in MF. Ballymore 2nd
                                - Crack Mome, second in MF, well beaten in Supreme
